What are the books you loved, hated or were just okay? Post any authors and titles you'd recommend based on your reading experiences. If you've created any reviews of specific titles, provide the link or write your review/comments here, whichever works for you.

I've been reading Monica McCarty's Highland Guards series and am in love with it. I've read the first three books and had to jump to the 6th book in order to review it for NetGalley. It's deeply entrenched in the medieval historical era when Robert The Bruce fought to release Scotland from English control. The characters are colorful and layered, including the heroines. I highly recommend it. The first book is The Chief
Well, speaking of historical romance, I've got some really good ones in my library, like Catherine Coulter's Night Storm. I've got the impression that it's part of a series, but I've only got this one in my collection and I really liked it!
I've read some of her books in the FBI series but none of her historicals. If you have other specific titles you've read, please share them.
Well, actually I have read only some historical romance from her. How is this FBI series of hers? Did you like it?As for other titles I liked from Catherine Coulter are Moonspun Magic the third of her Magic Trilogy and Devil's Daughter the second of her Devil books. The first book of these is still sitting untouched in my library (lol), I've got to read it sometime... Anyway, these are all I can think of right now.
My favorite historical romance is the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.
It's got everything: action, romance, time travel. They're long books but definitely worth reading.
Coulter's FBI series has been hit or miss with me (I've loved two, liked one and hated one) but I plan to stick with it. The series is considered to be romantic suspense.
I LOVED Outlander!!!! Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to continue the series, one of my goals in the new year.
Well, after I read the plot of Outlander, I immediately add it to my to-read books. And Belles you are right, generally books of these genre are long...Mmm, thanks for the info Jonetta, I'll see if I start them or just leave them be. I really hate when I start a series and it turns out that my feelings for its books are so mixed...
I like reading a series whenever possible. It's fun to see the characters in play and develop even if they play supporting roles.Outlander is really good but too intense for me to continue. I know this sounds wimpy and deranged but I just can't handle that kind of intensity and heartache in my reading. My mind already churns in my sleep, worrying fictional characters when I read lighter novels.

I was hoping to do a reread this year but only made it to Outlander. I would love to do a buddy read with you (and this may motivate us both).
I am finding myself falling in love with Lisa Kleypas's Historical romances. I just started to read her this year but so far have not disliked any. I have read all her stand alone HR except
which is hard to find in any format :( I loved the Wallflowers series and am hoping to start another of her series soon. Highly recommend the Wallflowers.
If you love the Wallflowers you'll love the Hathaways. They're loosely connected. But, I love most anything by Lisa Kleypas
I'm so excited to hear about other series by Lisa Kleypas so highly recommended. I'll have to put it on my to-read list. I read her other series, The Bow Street Runners, Capital Theater and finishing up The Gambler series. I love her novels. Her characters are very flawed but develop as the story progresses. My favorite is Someone to Watch Over Me.
Thanks for sharing the recommendations.

Together we have read the whole series lol. Glad to hear her other books are just as fabulous.
Jennifer Haymore is a new author to me and so far has 2 series. I have read the first book in her first series -
(part of the James Family series) and am now in the middle of the second book. If you like spicy sex scenes and a bit of suspense and old school villains this might be a series to try!
Hi Guys,I was wondering if you have any Regency Spy thriller novels you can recommend or vote for on a list I created.

I also have one that is specially for female spies in the Regency Romance section.

I created the lists in hope that others will post recommendations and as well as seeing how they rank.
Thanks!
Jonetta wrote: "I must admit, Jean, I haven't read anything in this sub genre."I hope you might find something interesting on the list or recommend a subgenre you like.
I'm always keeping my eye out for something to strike my fancy. That's why I love it here on Goodreads. I get so much exposure to different types of novels from all of the folks here. :)
Given that I'm a huge fan of contemporary mysteries, I haven't a clue as to where to start in a historical setting. What would you recommend as a start for someone like me?

Jane Austen is the investigator in the mysteries set during that time.
If you are look for romantic suspense, Amanda Quick is good. You can try Rendezvous, Ravished or Deception.
What are your favorite contemporary mystery writers/books?
Thanks, Jean. I'm a big fan of Amanda Quick and believe I own Deception and Ravished. My list of mystery writers is very long (I am a moderator of a mystery & suspense group) but some favorites are Karen Rose, Tom Clancy, Dean Koontz, Nelson DeMille, Lisa Gardner, John Sandford, Chris Mooney, Roxanne St. Claire, J. D. Robb, John Grisham.....
Well, you get the idea.
