Marina walked from her house down to the River. She dove in, clothes and all, and let herself be absorbed by the preciousness of the River. Since she was a wielder. she had special powers, like being able to breathe under water. Fish shimmied by her as she swam along the banks. No one had ever been to the middle of the River, which legend has it is a mile deep and filled woth treachorous sea monsters, like sharks and sting-rays. No one but her. Of course she couldn't swim all the way down to the bottom, no that was impossible even for the greatest wielder, but there was once a machine that could, a machine that could take her all the way down and make it able to chart the unknown. A submarine, she recalled, was what it was called.
