In the book, Hoops, by Walter Dean Myers, the community center affects Lonnie by making him hang out with his friends and play basketball. This helps Lonnie become a better basketball player because he practices a lot. In the book, it says, "The center wasn't much but it was our hangout. You could always tell a guy that had learned his ball in the center, because they all had this line-drive jumper." This proves that the community affects him because the center was the hangout. Lonnie liked going there so he could play ball and have fun with his friends. The community center helps Lonnie become a better person and helps him with his basketball skills.
In Robert Lipsyte's realistic fiction book called Yellow Flag, the protagonist is a Kyle who is a teen racecar driver. Kris has a family full of racers and they each take turns at racing. Dad of the family started it when he was a racecar driver, he lead his sons into it. Kyle usually races for his older brother Kris when he is hurt and can't make it. They were racers because of their father. Kris and Kyle's father influence them a lot with racing. Dad taught Kris and Kyle how to race and their skills. Without their father, Kris and Kyle would have mostly been a regular teen in school. On page 59 (Pages Different on Nook), Dad said," Since you weren't the one who qualified, you'd have to start dead last. No pressure. Stay out of trouble, move up slow, you got three hundred laps. You finish in the top twenty-five, everybody be happy." This quote shows how Dad influence Kyle and Kris a lot. He gives them tons of advice in racing. He manage tons of the things like when Kris is hurt and he changes tons of things that Kyle and Kris do. Kris and Kyle lives would not have been racecar driver without their dad so their dad is a very big influence that affected them.
In the book " The Captain" by Ian O' Connor Derek Jeter's parents majorly affect him because they try to keep him in a positive mood and they make him happy when Derek Jeter loses he gets frustrated and his parents are there for him to pick his head up. when Derek Jeter made an error in a game, when the game was over he was very upset and his parents and sister made him feel better by telling him "it's not a big deal."
In the fantasy book, Untamed, by P.C Cast and her daughter Kristen Cast, my protagonist Zoey, is facing lots of sorrow and grief. Stark, a new fledgling that enters the house of night has previously died in Zoey's arms. Zoey had fell in love with him, without actually knowing him. Aphrodite, on the other hand, has been telling Zoey of a new vision she just have. It was based on Zoey's cherokee grandmother, writing a mysterious poem, warning that something dangerous is going to happen. The poem tells a strange and bizzare cherokee demons named Kalona and Queen Tsi sglii. Zoey's grandmother had been surprised at the news and warned her immediately that there was not going to be a good future ahead. Also, Neferet, the high pristess of the House Of Night, have left the good path of the goddess Nyx, and have been following someone even more powerful than that. "Seeing Neferet lose it like thatwas bizarre, and even though I knew she had turned her back on Nyx and was into some really bad stuff, it shook me to see someone crumble so completely" (86.) This quote shows that even Zoey felt bad for Neferet having left her born path and followed some evil, dark one. Neferet, at the moment hated Zoey because she had stolen her boyfriend, Professor Nolan, and he somehow had been killed by a human. The high pristess was not happy.
In the realistic fiction book, Winter girls by Laurie Halse Anderson. My protagonist Lia, her best friend Cassie brings sadness to Lia because of her death. And for Cassie to die like that affected her a lot.
