10.7. Hail to the Chief.
In honor of Presidents Day and Inaugural Day, read a biography, autobiography, or memoir of a U.S. President.

Dee (austhokie) | 9031 comments its really long - but I highly recommend Washington: A Life - it won the pulitzer for biography a few years ago

Tried by War: Abraham Lincoln as Commander in Chief was also a good read

that will work if the ebook verification is okay.

No, it doesn't have to cover their time as president.

Bea I have been avoiding John Adams, even though I own it, due to its size. Maybe I will tackle it for this task.

message 12: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 9031 comments Bea - you can always start now and use the 500+ page rule ;)

Bea Dee wrote: "Bea - you can always start now and use the 500+ page rule ;)"

I am seriously thinking about that...except I also have The Time Traveler's Wife and Les Misérables to work on also....DECISIONS!

Dee (austhokie) | 9031 comments yeah, i kinda got distracted on Les mis - I need to get back to it

I read that earlier this fall - it's long, but really good!

Bluemoon (bluemoon286) | 1797 comments Does the memoir need to be written by the president? I was thinking My Father at 100 about Ronald Reagan written by his son.

Thanks.

Sounds like it fits as a biography.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) I'm struggling with finding a book for this task as everything I have looked at just doesn't appeal to me :( I found this book Angels Don't Die My Father's Gift of Faith by Patti Davis at the library today and wondering if it will work.

I'll take it - it seems as if it's about his life and the way he handled events in his life, so that's biographical.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Thanks Sandy!!!

Ellen wrote: "What about Thomas Jefferson's Creme Brulee: How a Founding Father and His Slave James Hemings Introduced French Cuisine to America?"

sure. And, wow, I learned something new just from the title! After reading the description, I think I may have to read that book myself.

JenniferJ | 52 comments I am having an awful time finding anything for this task. It is way out of my reading comfort zone and I was about to give up for the night until I ran across the following book and wondered if it would be okay?

From Canal Boy to President by Horatio Alger Jr.

message 32: by Kate S (new)

Kate S I was hoping to read Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power, but I am not sure I will come up on the library list soon enough :(
But Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President is available to pick up over the weekend and looks like a fascinating book about our short term president :)

Sorry, Jennifer - for some reason, it didn't show up with red "new" on the post! Looking at the book, it certainly appears to be a book geared toward early elementary school readers, but since it's a 10 pont task, you can use it.

message 36: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 52 comments LOL thank you thank you Sandy! Like I said I was struggling with this task because I am not huge on non-fiction at all.
