I was just wondering.. peacocks are a type of flightless birds right?
I thought they could fly short distances kinda like turkeys. But I might be wrong. Wouldn't stake my life on it.
I found this on Wikipedia: "They forage on the ground in small groups and will usually try to escape on foot through undergrowth and avoid flying, though they will fly into tall trees to roost."Apparently they can fly but choose to avoid it most of the time.
My all-time favourite bird story is Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach. But don't you just love the bits in the books AND the films in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, whenever the eagles appear? It just takes adventure to a whole new level when someone is being carried into the sky by such a massive fearsome powerful bird. And the way Tolkien always seems to have them appear just when the tide of ill-fortune is turning. Gotta love it.
I love the owl stories by Martin Hocke: The Ancient Solitary Reign and The Lost Domain.
Tyto the Owl by Glyn Frewer is another good owl tale.
