I think in New Zealand it would be the kiwi, considering the fact that it is endangered and on 70 thousand species are alive due to so many predators.
How about the Maui's dolphins? There are only a few dozen left (around 55 they think) The scary thing is their main danger is human fishermen who catch them in their nets by accident and pretend it doesn't happen because they don't want the government to make them go further out to sea to do their fishing.
