Jaci bounded away from the looming brick asylum, her feet squishing into the moist ground and her arms swinging as she ran away from the torturous building. She knew that she still remained in a caged cell even though she was no longer trapped in the horrid building, but being outside filled her with a feeling of true freedom and piece. A bubbly laughter crawled its way up her throat and her ruby red lips twisted up in a cheery smile. She loved the feeling of the golden sun on her pale milky skin and the wind that whipped her crimson hair around her grinning face. She finally stopped when she reached the old willow, facing the cracked bark of the old tree. She wiggled her feet into the wet grass and stood on her tip toes, examining all the names carved into the tree. She ran her soft fingers over the names, whispering each one as she went. She smiled and walked to a bare section of the tree, carving her name into it with her bare finger.
Harmony was hiding in the tree, waiting for anything to happen when she noticed a girl coming to her. She watched intently as the girl ran her fingers along the bark, and she watched the girl put her fingers on her carving of her name. Hello she said softly.
Jaci cocked her head to the side, some of her bright red hair falling over her intense blue eyes. She circled the tree, and pouted when she had rounded the entire willow. "Hello?" She asked in her sweet honey voice, eyebrows furrowed. She wondered if the quiet whisper of a voice was her own imagination.
Harmony immediately hid deep in the heart of the tree, regretting her actions of talking. She camouflaged her skin to match the tree and stayed still.
Jaci let out a long disappointed sigh as she saw that the dieing tree was empty, shaking her head. "There's no one here. your just crazy." Jaci whispered to herself and ran a delicate slender hand through her blood red hair. She reached up and touched one of the dried dead leaves, holding it in her palm. When she released it it was moist and green, thriving with life. She smiled and gently ran her fingers over the leaf, proud of her ability even though the doctors claimed it was a curse. How could breathing life into something a curse? Well, perhaps having the ability to take life and alter matter weighed out the good of her gift.
Harmony snuck out, trying to get a view of the girl. Seeing her alone her camo faltered and she turned bright blue. Great. She tried to re cameo in the tree, but no matter how much she tried she stuck out enough for the asylum to notice her
Jaci turned her head, a bright smile still illuminating her features. She heard the deceased leaves rustle and looked up, seeing the bright blue girl perched in the tree. She let out a small high-pitched shriek and jumped back, putting her hands up as if to protect herself. She rubbed her deep blue eyes, and when the girl didn't disappear she took a step closer, curious. "Um.. hello there." She said and gave a little wave, now only a foot away from the trunk. She peered up at the stranger, staring at her odd blue skin.
The girl realized that is was too late to go back and change anything. She too smiled and hoped down. by the time she hit the ground she was a 5 year old. "hi" she winked, happily. She was now a little not-so-blue child with long green hair.
"HEY!! WHO'S DOWN THERE?!" a gruff voice screamed. Marcus. He must have been on patrol duty while the girls snuck out.
Jaci's eyes widened as she looked at the now young child, whose skin was now a normal peachy hue. "Why, thats odd." She said, her eyebrows low and her eyes calculating. Then it hit her. "Oh my that must be your curse! Oh what a lovely little talent, to be whatever you please." She said, her eyes full of wonder as she tried to conjure up what she would be. Then she heard the gruff voice a nearby guard, his voice low and angry. Her whole body tensed and a shudder ran through her. "We must hide." She said and scurried up the tree like an animal, and sat in the middle of the crack of the old tree. Her fingers brushed the insides of the tree and it began to close itself again, the tree folding in on her. She now hid in a hollow of the tree, a wall of bark protecting her. She was close enough to the ground so no one would realize the tree had magically fixed itself, unless they looked long and hard. She attempted to control her breathing. Now that she had seen the outside, she never wanted to leave. Her sapphire eye peeked out through a tiny peek hole in the tree, scanning her surrondings.
The girl immediately looked around before pressing her self against the tree and going into camouflage again. Even now, she felt so exposed and scared, and the cameo started to faulter.
Omg sorry guys!!! i had dance :/ yea thats fine that he passed, we should now make all of the characters more catious when at the tree, k?
Jaci smiled and touched her fingers to the roof of her little hiding place, splitting the tree back in half. She crawled out gracefully and jumped from her perch, landing solidly on her feet. "Oh thank god." She said with a smile and wiped her forehead with the back of her hand. "Indeed, that was close!" She laughed with relief and plopped down on the grass.
Jaci's beautiful blue eyes were shining and she grinned at her new friend, who now was perched on her shoulder as a feathery little bird. "Oh I wish I had your gift! Oh what it must be like to be as free as a bird, free to fly off wherever you please!" She said with a wonder-filled smile, running her gentle fingers over the birds tiny head. She leaned back then, resting her hands behind her and starring up into the cloud filled sky.
The bird suddenly turned into an old cat and cuddled into her, supporting her.She purred loudly and sat at the base of the tree with Jaci, enjoying being out of the Asylum.
Jaci smiled and stroked the fuzzy elderly cat, enjoying the sound of the rhythmic purring. She leaned her back against the tree's rough bark, humming a little tune that she had heard... somewhere. Jaci's voice was perfect pitch, sweet like honey and practically angelic. She began to sing the words of the warm lullaby, her lips forming the beautiful words.
The elderly cat purred with satisfaction then the cat once again turned into a male, roughly four years old and sat next to the girl. What is your gift? The boy asked, voice almost silent.
Jaci stopped her song and turned to the small child, listening to his question. "My gift? Oh yes yes, my gift! I have the ability of alteration. I can see the molecules in an object and I have the power to move and remap them. i can stop the molecules, though i don't enjoy doing so because it ends up killing the object. But, but I can also restart them, in some cases! I can bring dead things back to life! The good and the bad of my gift weigh each other out, so it's not too bad." She said with a sad smile. "And I know your special talent! You're a shape shifter! Hoe glorious!" She said with a little laugh and ruffled the childs overgrown hair.
The child's laughter started to rumble and in a second the child became a badger, still rolling on the floor and making sounds that seemed vaguely like laughter. She realized that she had accidentally changed and quickly changed back into a boy again. "you see? I can't really control my power. I use it to skrew around with the doctors" the boy smiled cheek to cheek. "I rarely use my real form, I haven't used my original form since I was 12...." his eyes lost focus. " And then the insecurities kicked in..."
Jaci nodded, hearing the story of her new friend. She understood what she meant about insecurities. Being an above average human set her apart from the rest of the world, leaving her alone in the dark. And the harsh and cruel words of the doctors did little to sooth her aching soul. "Well, if you ever want to talk i'm here. We're friends, right?" She asked, turning to face the little child.
"yea, I guess so" the boy grinned. He watched the sky. It was getting dark. "they will notice our absence if we stay longer" The boys face turned grim, even sunken in and hungry. "good luck" he walked toward the sad asylum, head down. He looked back "coming?" He turned into her first form, a 15 year old girl with red short spiky hair.
"Yes, yes im coming!" She said and jumped to her feet, running to catch up to her pal. She shivered slightly in her threadbare shirt, the chilly wind of night sweeping across the land. She starred down at her bare feet and wished she had snuck a pair of shoes on before she had left. "So, how are you planning on getting back in without them noticing?" She asked, starring at the large front door that was the only entrance she knew of.
"Here" she snuck around until they came across a hole in the fence. "you aren't going to fit" she sighed "If we can't go through we go over" She turned into a young, strong man. He hoisted Jaci up and over the fence, then turned into a dog and snuck though the gap in the fence.
Jaci smile as her feet landed on the ground, wiping the dirt from her worn faded pants. "Your gift certainly comes in handy!" She said with a brilliant smile and waited for her mutt self to scamper through the fence before continuing. "Now, how do you plan to get into the building? Sneak through a window? A secret tunnel?" She asked, excitement lighting up her features.
"Hmmmm... I feel that we could get creative with this one..." she smiled "any suggestions?- for shapeshifting that is. I don't know of any secret hallways...yet." her face lit up "I don't mind smashing through the wall as a giant polar bear if it comes to that, but people usually are more creative then that!"
"Oh you could transform into a guard and just open the door! Oh that would be quite hilarious! You could drag me in and say something like, I found this one by the tree. gonna bring her in." Jaci said, changing her voice to her version of a mans voice for the last phrase. "Or maybe you could be a giant bird and fly us on top of the roof! Or, or....." She said, thinking of all the possible disguises she could turn into.
"Lets go! I have a bit of an idea." She turned into a guard. "shhh" she put her fingers to her lips and turned around, displaying a monkey tail. " I thought I should shake things up a little" she giggled "lets get moving"
Jaci nodded and starred at the girls brown monkey tail, trying not to burst into a fit of giggles. She heard the lunch bell ring and heard her stomach growl. AS much as she hated the asylum, at least there was food. Jaci attempted to make a serious face as she readied herself for their next move.
Harmony walked up to the front door. She looked the guards right in the eyes "found this one still in the courtyard" The guard made a quick nod to her then open the doors. She patted Jaci with her tail once they rounded the corner, now safe. ((Cafeteria now, or hallways?))
((Hmm... whatever you want.))Jaci lets harmony drag her through the entrance of the asylum, and quickly turns her head around and sticks her tongue out at the two guards before the giant door closes. She attempts to keep her laughter in by holding her dainty hand over her mouth, but once she see's that the room is empty besides them, crazy fits of laughter erupt from her mouth. She wipes at the tears forming in her eyes and takes a deep breath, a cheery smile still painted across her face.
((cafeteria)) Harmony also broke into a fit of laughter. She was so joyful that her skin accidentally turn blue and her ears grew twice in size. of course this made another fit of laughter erupt through the halls an it was a while before she calmed down enough for her appearance to be normal again. As soon as all the laughing was dealt with and Harmony's appearance was normal, they made their way to the Cafeteria, Now friends.
Harmony ran to the tree, needing to get away from all of the craziness that was around her. Everything that she used to keep herself sane throughout the 11 years she had been here was crumbling around her. She clung to the tree, and wiped the tears from her eyes.
She sighed, and tried to pull herself together. She paced around the tree, and felt it's hundred-year-old bark with her finger tips. She used her gift to calm down by making her skin match the pattern of the bark, like some sort of camouflage.
Mason watched Harmony, having just heard her breathing. He was usually very observant of such things but had been distracted with all this free time. He hardly ever had a real moment to himself. "Are you alright?"
She nearly jumped out of her skin. She hated people seeing her weak. She looked up at the branches, and saw Mason. She recognized him from the abandoned hallways a while back. "Oh, its you." She smiled and wiped her tears. "I'm sorry." She said, referring to her tears.
