Isabella | 50 comments Once the pride of the Free Lands, the vast marketplace at the city’s heart is indeed a great sight to behold. It has somehow survived the continuing decay of the rest of Boraldes, although its glory has faded somewhat over time.

Long-standing shops surround a circular area filled with temporary merchant stalls in the center of the city, their stone walls setting them apart from the simple wood and thatch homes huddled against the low city wall. Narrow, pitted cobblestone roads slick with mud and other filth weave haphazardly throughout the city, all leading eventually to the considerably cleaner marketplace.

The baron’s hall hides in the northern district along with the few other nobles’ manors. It is a surprisingly small and unassuming structure, only two stories and compact, with a small garden captured between the drab veranda and the black iron property fence.

All of Boraldes is grey and wet even on a sunny day, and the multitude of beggars wandering the city give it an even bleaker ambience. The Free Lands’ council of kings has ignored the city’s gradual collapse, considering the price of revitalizing it too high.
