Coffee and Pastries Shop

Catherine was sitting down at the farthest corner of the coffee shop. Women aren't allowed in any other coffee shop except there at Rosette's. The owner herself, Rosette was a friend of hers and her brother's. Having her coffee and reading a book, she knew no one would disturbed her.

"I knew I'd bound to find you here." Marcus grinned mischievously down at his childhood friend. He missed seeing her when he visited Conner but he knew all her hide out. Tipping his top hat, he motioned the empty seat infront of Catherine, "Is the seat taken, my lady?"

Catherine squeaked at the sound of a familiar voice, "Marcus!" she beamed up to him. He look dashing as usual. She never though she'd miss him too much. Holding the urge to hugged him, she nodded furiously, "Take a seat. Oh my! Its been... what? Years since I saw you! You looks absolutely handsome, Marcus!"

Marcus hope Catherine didn't notice him reddened a bit, "I guess you and a lot of women would think that, Erin." he said sitting down. "I'm still me. Still Marcus."

She laughed at him, noticing that he grew embarrassed at her words, "Oh Marcus, I missed you. How are you fairing these years? Have you call on Conner? I'm sure he'd be delighted to see you too!"

"I've arrived a few days ago and already call on Conner. I was hoping to see you at your house but Conner complained that you'd been disappearing every now and then." he explained as he watched Catherine. She was beautiful as always to him, "I'm back here at Mayfair for good. I do hope that we'd be able to spend time together like years ago."

"That's wonderful! Conner have been so grumpy with me, he's always so strict. With you around, he'd be more easy on me!!" she said happily, placing her book down the table. "But don't worry. If you pursue any girls this season, I'll help you with her!" she suggested teasingly.

Marcus winced at her words but smiled nonetheless, "Of course. I'll save a dance or two for you." he teased back, "I'm not here to pursue anyone. Though I already have one in mind. But I'll let you know if I need help with her. And you? How many have you rejected?" he added as a joke.

She let the subject of Marcus and his lady-love go and rolled her eyes at his last question, "I refuse to answered that stupid question." she said stubbornly.

It was his turn to laughed at her, "No, its not stupid. Its a question which has an answer." he snickered, "Come on now Erin. Your secret is perfectly safe with me."

"Shush~!!" she placed a finger on her lips to signal him to shut up. She looked around, "I don't have secrets. Besides the last time I told you my secret, my brother nearly locked me up in my room for days!" she hissed at him quietly when no one was looking at their table.

Marcus continue to laughed at her, he did remember that time, "I have no idea what you are talking about. I was minding my own business. Its not my fault that your brother caught you sneaking out your house to go to hell-knows where."

Catherine stick out her tongue at him, even if it seem unlady-like, it was just Marcus, she thought. But smiled secretly, she like talking to him and now he's back. "I wasn't going anywhere. I just don't like staying at home when everyone else can be outside and having fun. It was Lady Mortenham's annual ball."

"I remember now." he said grinning, "Conner was complaining the whole night. Your mother was filling the lady's dancing cards with your brother's name. I was laughing all night. The highlight was when I saw you hiding behind the tree when I went out the garden with Lady Claire."

She giggled as she imagine Conner in a corner hiding from ladies their mother promised he danced. But at the mentioned of Lady Claire and Marcus out the garden, she scowled, "What were you doing with that dreadful woman anyway?" she asked getting irritated.

"Wouldn't you like to know?" he asked teasingly, hoping that Catherine was a bit jealous, "Well, I can't quite remember. It was years ago. Besides I barely remember her face, though I can describe you about this lady hiding on top of a tree looking for her brother."

"Hmpf." she still grumbled with her arms folded, "I had to hide or anyone could catch me and tell mother, which I was by my own friend!"

"I didn't tell your mother." he explained, "I told Conner, 'I going to take your sister home before your mother caught her.' After that he went to tell your mother and off he goes home with you and your mother without him dancing with anyone. See? your clever brother did that on purpose. That why he didn't really lock you up."

"He did what?!" she shoot up from her chair, her hand on fist on her sides, "Conner did that on purpose? That was the reason I still have a chaperon up to this age!! And he used me, just so he can escape that ball?" she picked up her book and dash out the coffee shop to find her brother.

Surprised out Catherine's outburst, all Marcus could do was to dash after her, "Erin!" he called out and caught up with her fast strides out the sidewalk. "Come on now. That was years ago. You can't be that vexed. You know you're brother. He's..." he sighed and grabbed Erin's hand to stop her.

She stopped, not that Marcus was holding her too tight but she faced him. "I'm fine." she said monotonously, "I just want to go home.. No. I don't want to go home. Can we go somewhere else?"

"I'll take you to home, my home." he said and started to talk to Marcus's house.
