Be sure to give us the title and author of your book and to tell us what page you are on and how many total pages there are in your book. Also, tell us how many books that you have read so far for SSR. If you have just started a new SSR book, you may post on the last book that you read. In your post, state whether you are making a TEXT TO TEXT, TEXT TO SELF OR TEXT TO WORLD connection. Then go on to describe the similarities between your book and the world around you, yourself or another book that you have read. You need to describe TWO connections in all.

Stephanie S (steph_97) | 4 comments The book I am reading is The American Hobbit by George Ellis Wheeler. I'm on page 8. There are 138 pages in this book. The book I want to talk about my first quarter book, The Gates of Paradise by V.C. Andrews considering I'm not far in the book I'm reading now. I am making a TEXT TO WORLD connection because some of the psychotic events that happens within this book can also happen in real life. Another connection I would like to make is TEXT TO SELF because I could relate to the type of things that were going through her mind as if I were living in the house my own self.

Noel Faragalli | 5 comments The book that i am reading is The Mighty i am currently on page 80 out of 160 ( i am a very slow reader). I can make a TEXT TO SELF connection because, in this book, Max and Kevin get bullied and i was bullied thought-out my whole life. I can also make TEXT TO WORLD connection because people everywhere are bullied and have to struggle with rare diseases like Kevin.

Demi Zingone | 6 comments The book i am reading is called "Mockingjay" by Suzann collins. I am on page 353 of 388 and are almost done. I am making a text to world connection, because in this book the characters do have to fight for what they believe in, and what they think is the right thing to do. People in the world do have to make this sacrifice in order to survive. TEXT TO SELF would not fit in this catergory, because I do not have to fight for my life to save the ones i love, however Katniss is strong and smart, and that I can relate to. Also there would be no other book, article or text that could match up with the trouble, situations and drama that are rolled up into 3 magnificent books; Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mocking Jay.

Jimmy Nie | 7 comments The book i'm recently reading for SSR is Vampire Hunter D Demon DeathChase Vol.3 by Hideyuki Kikuchi. This is the second book i have read in SSR and i believe i'm on page 29 out of 211.TEXT TO TEXT, the book i'm reading right now is similar to the book i read before because both book's text talks about villagers being adult/kidnapped or vanishing. Also, the books relate to "TEXT TO WORLD" because some people just sometimes vanish with no signs of trace.

Alex Maiorana | 7 comments The book i am reading is the rangers apprentice part 2. I am on page 242 of 262 this is the second book I am reading in SSR. TEXT TO WORLD It is text to world because what is happening the wars and rivalries these complications do exist and people have wars, rivals, and people die. It is also TEXT TO TEXT because it is the same book i was reading for my first book just the second part it is very similar to the last book.

Joshua | 3 comments The name of my book is Sterling Squadron and the author’s name is Eric Nylund. I’m on page 19 of 307 and so far I’ve read 1 book so far. I’m doing my book talk on my previous book Storm Chasers and I’m TEXT TO TEXT with my new book. I believe it is text to text because the books are kind of similar. I believe they are similar because there both in a series and there both about people that must overcome a task. Also I’m doing TEXT TO WORLD, still on my previous book. I believe my previous book text to world because my previous book is about a kid who mother and sister die in a car crash and now him and his dad travel the country helping people in storms. In the story of my previous book Chase, the main character, is at a new school with his new friend Nicole whose city is preparing for a storm and at the end of the day the storm hits and the bus they are in crashes into the lake but luckily only Chase(boy), Nicole(girl), there new friend Rashawn(girl), and the school bus driver(man) were on the bus but sadly the driver dies...to know the you will have to read the book Storm Chasers. I believe my previous book is text to world because my previous book can relate to recent storms like hurricane Sally and Katrina and how people and organizations like the Red Cross helped people that were struck by the storms...but the book has more action.

Donell | 7 comments The name of my book is called "Bud,Not Buddy" im on page 117 out of 243 pages. This is my second book of SSR.
Two connections that in this book i can speak on are TEXT TO WORLD, and TEXT TO TEXT.
a connection that is to the world is how the boy bud is in the foster homes and he is running away from the houses they put him in he is trying to find his father due to his mothers death, that can be compared to someone's else life i know of the family i knew they were took into the foster home because of their moms lack of responsibility and they ran away looking for family and help like the boy Bud in the book.
Another connection is to text in my old book forged by fire the boy gerald was in the foster home at one point because he started a fire while he was home alone at the age of 3 and his mom was out doing drugs..

Alexia Stipa (LexiaNicolex3) | 4 comments I am reading witches on burbon street by deanna chase. This is the only book i have read so far and im on 98% out of 100%. TEXT TO SELF This book relates to me because everything that is going on in this book has happend to me or i can see happing to me. TEXT TO TEXT This book relates to just about every other fantasy book i read. Thiers always a love story where one of the gets lost. And their is always a major fight scene.

Briana Little | 7 comments Im doing my last book " City of Ember" im currently done this book. ( Text to Self ) I can connect to this book because im very curious and in this book the two main characters Lina and Doon are trying to figure out what the mayor is hiding for the city and when I dont undertstand something i do everything i can until i find out the answer. ( Text to Text ) This book relates to " The Hunger Games " to because theres a little action in it and there's two young teen in both stories and they kind of find love at the end of the day.

David Melaragni | 4 comments I'm reading the giver. I am on page 13. I will do the book I just finished called "red kayak." It is a TEXT TO WORLD connection because an event in the book that happened happens in real life.

Marquesbjohnson | 6 comments I AM READING THE GIVER BY LOIS LOWRY AND I AM ON 165 OUT OF 179 AND ITS STILL MY FIRST BOOK BUT I'M ALMOST THERE. THE GIVER I THINK IS A TEXT TO SELF BECAUSE IN THE GIVER JONAS HAS TO DECIDE IF HE WANTS TO LEAVE HIS WORLD TO TRY TO FIND ELSE WHERE SO HIS FRIENDS AND EVERYONE IN HIS COMMUNITY CAN LIVE A NORMAL LIFE LIKE US TODAY AND THIS IS CONVERTED TO MY LIFE BECAUSE THERE ARE ALOT OF CHOICES IN MY LIFE THAT I HAVE TO MAKE THAT I HAVE TO CHOOSE SO IT CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

message 13: by Diana (new)

Diana | 10 comments the book that i am reading for the 2nd quarter is" worst enemies/ best friends" by Annie Bryant. i am on page 61 out of 212. this is my second book. my book is on all three texts.. its based on TEXT TO TEXT because both this and my first book Please Stop Laughing at me has to do with bulling and judging people without knowing them. its based on TEXT TO SELF because i`ve been bullied since i was little and people didn`t know to be judging me. its based on TEXT TO WORLD because everyday someone is being bullied for no reason. people are dying because of bullies thinking that they don`t belong in this world.

message 14: by Greg (new)

Greg Kercy | 8 comments the book I'm still reading for SSR is the absolute true diary of a part time Indian by Sherman Alexie. I'm now on page 202 of 280. During my time reading the book I had found a text-to-self event happening in the book. Arnold tries to make the cut for the basketball team and he faces the biggest and strongest player on the team. I remember when I was in middle school in 6th grade, I tried out for the basketball team and I had to face one-on-one with the best player that was already on the team. another I found was text-to-world because Arnold faced up against his old school for a second time because the first time they played they got blown out. This happens around the world because in the NBA when a team get blown out by another team they want revenge and play them again so they can blow them out.

message 15: by Yai'nee (new)

Yai'nee Anderson | 10 comments I am reading a book called "prep" by curtis sittenfeld and im on page 24 of 403. For SSR so far in 2nd quarter i am on my 2nd book. Two connections are text to text and text to world. Its text to text because my last book i read Please Stop Laughing At Me was based on a girl who doesnt fit and experiences complicated and intense relationships in her life as well as Lee Fiora in by current book. Its text to world because she goes to a boarding and away from her parents a lot so she misses them a lot and also has to go through the everyday teenage life of girls, classmates, boyfriends, crushes, friendships and so on.

Yai'nee Anderson | 10 comments Diana wrote: "the book that i am reading for the 2nd quarter is" worst enemies/ best friends" by Annie Bryant. i am on page 61 out of 212. this is my second book. my book is on all three texts.. its based on TEX..."

whats is your book about? and have u gotten over the bullying you been through or does it still hold on to you and it guides you through life

message 17: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Pantalone | 7 comments I finishd the book I was reading called "Code Orange" by Caroline B. Cooney. That is the first book I finished during my SSR experience. I did not pick the new book I am going to read but I will most likely get it tomorrow. I will talk about the book "Code Orange." I would say this is TEXT TO WORLD small pox was a real disease that was effecting many people in the world. I would also say this is a TEXT TO SELF because I can relate to them because they are also students learning in school, and I know if i thought I had small pox I would be very scared to. These are the connections I would pick for the book "Code Orange."

message 18: by Samnang (new)

Samnang Suom | 4 comments The book that I'm reading is called The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I'm currently on page 53. There are 249 pages in the book. It's about a girl named Liesel Meminger who lives with foster parents in 1930's Germany. In this book, I share many similarities with Liesel. In this book, Liesel is a scrawny girl who is often called names by her foster mother, Rosa Hubermann, and other adults. I am also called names by others and my own mother, but me and Liesel don't care who says what to us (TEXT TO SELF). Another connection is that Liesel takes on the chores of mundane tasks of walking to the store and carrying laundry by herself, instructed by her mother. My mother sometimes tells me to walk to the store to but certain items for her (TEXT TO WORLD).

message 19: by Jarrett (new)

Jarrett Devose | 6 comments The book I'm still reading obviously is called Moby Dick by Herman Milville. I'm on page 87 out of 658 or so. They're not really any major or minor conflicts in my book as of yet. It's a lot of little conflicts that the narrator (Ishmael) talks about. The only conflict I can think of right now is the problem of Ishmael not feeling safe around Queenpeug; the cannibal he has to be roommates with in the beginning.

message 20: by Jarrett (new)

Jarrett Devose | 6 comments Actually I can make a text to self connection and text to world connection because I'm slightly suspect of prejudging people and making stereotypes in my mind but I do get to know people before I make a final judgement about them.

message 21: by Deborah (new)

Deborah F. (Xamille77) | 4 comments The book I’m currently reading is called “Sophomore Switch” by Abby McDonald. I am currently at page 11 out of 297 and I have read 1 book so far ever since starting SSR. However the book I’ll be talking about is called “Stolen” by Lucy Christopher. I am making a TEXT TO TEXT connection because this book reminds me of the book I’m currently reading, “Sophomore Switch”, and in this book two girls switch colleges in as foreign exchange students in different environments having to deal with situations and changes on their own. Also in “Stolen” the victim, or Gemma, was kidnapped by a man named Ty, taking her to Australia; she has to desperately find her way back to her family, alone and confused on to who she should trust. I am also making a TEXT TO WORLD connection because in the book, “Stolen”, a young girl, Gemma, becomes attracted to a handsome man, Ty, and decides to have lunch with him at the airport. Not knowing his true agenda he drugs her and kidnaps her to; no not have his way with her, but to shockingly get her to fall in love with him. This tells me that you can trust everyone and don’t talk to strangers because you never know what’s going on in the back of the minds.

message 22: by Shaimir (new)

Shaimir J. | 4 comments I'm reading Kaffir Boy by Mark Marianne. This is still my first book, but I'm on page 343 out of 350. I am connecting this book to myself, because the main character is about 15 & his parents are getting divorced, much like myself . He has also just started playing tennis & he loves the game & feels very passionate about it. It is his escape from his personal problems & this is how I feel about basketball.

message 23: by Badi (new)

Badi Ali | 10 comments I have started a new book but my last book was Al's world the killer lunch lady and was my second book read during ssr. I have made a TEXT TO TEXT between this and another book Maniac Magee because was about a boy who went on an adventure and help people and so did the main character Al in my story. I have also made a TEXT TO WORLD connection because in the book there is an awkward lunch ladie and people want to know what she does out of school and that happenes in the world kids are curious about their lunch ladies.

message 24: by Lanier (new)

Lanier A. | 6 comments The two connections I can make too my book "bagging for change " is a text to world connection because the book is about homeless people and whrn youu think about all the people that are losin their jobs & homes in philadelphia youu can really see it in this book

message 25: by Demi (new)

Demi Zingone | 6 comments The book I am currently reading is called "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer and I am on page 196 of 498. I do read this book every day and especially on weekends, and I plan on reading the entire series. This is the second book I have read since the beginning of the year. I am making a TEXT TO SELF connection because one of the main characters, 'Bella' fights for what she believes in and loves. I feel that I do the same. Since this book is about vampires, I cannot really make a text to world but i can make a text to text. I would relate this book to The Hunger Games, because there is a lead female in a non realistic situation with two other males who have fallen under her beauty and courage. I do recommend reading this book because it does have more love than action, so it may not be suited towards the male readers but for the females this is a riviting love story that proves that love conquers all.
