How much is too much

Not sure if 1,000 books total is average or not. There are members here with a lot less, there also are members with a lot more.I guess that if you honestly tick off what you've read as 'read' or 'started-not-finished' if you didn't, for others will be clear which books belong to what category.
Personally I do not look so much at 'numbers'. I still am amazed when people of around my age (41) still get to read as much as I used to during my childhood & teenage years (about 7 books / week). I wonder how they accomplish that and I envy them, honestly. There are so many other things that need to be done that reading time is very limited now.
On the other hand: when I do have time, it is much more appreciated!!
I don't think you should worry about numbers and just use GoodReads for your way of keeping track of the books you read, liked, disliked and, maybe, interact with other readers / members that you think might be of interest to you.
I'm at a total of 1555 on my bookshelf, & am at 79 for the year. My kids are older, 2 of them are grown & out of the house, & of the other 3, one's in college, works, & has a social life, so we don't see her much, she comes & goes, one's a freshman in high school, & we're in his 2nd sport of the year, socer season, immediately following football season, & from soccer we'll go to track. My youngest will be 13 in Feb, & he's in 7th grade. I'm a stay at home Mom, so I completely enjoy how quiet the house is during the day, & once I get the house chores done in the morning, I can curl up with a book on the couch. I'm 45, LOL. I use the 1001 book challenge list as a great resource for reading books I most likely wouldn't otherwise pick up on my own, & have learned that I really enjoy classics, but the 1001 is VERY diverse. I'm also working on the banned/challenged lists, & sometimes the 2 lists overlap.

I noticed that if you add my read books (900) to my to read books (100) that is a round 1,000.
I am 37 now, and I think I started reading (certainly books included on this list) when I was 6 that is 31 years worth of reading. Allowing for the couple of hundred books in my childhood/teenage years which were so unremarkable I have forgotten them that is an average of 35 books a year.
On this basis I know I must have had some very fallow years. I've beaten my 50 book reading challenge the last two years and I remember having to keep reading diaries for GCSE English and topping 100 books each year.
So I've done a lot of reading (and most of it I've enjoyed). Is my 1,000 books too much or about average?
