Young Adult Book Reading Challenges discussion

Now that you've started the book, what do you think?

I actually just finished! haha, I know, I know. A bit early, but c'est la vie. Don't worry I won't say any spoilers!

But I think I can still give initial thoughts. The beginning of this book was a bit slow for me. Not sure if it's the way she wrote/writes from 3rd person perspective, but it is/was hard for me to really get into each character.
After this initial hurdle, it did pick up for me.

I liked the book - but I didn't really love it. I found myself getting angry with the characters because they communicated so poorly. Realistic maybe - but lots of heartache, hurt and anger can be avoided if people actually TALKED and LISTENED to each other instead of just assuming they know what the other person is thinking.

I agree Grace, there were parts that I just couldn't get into. Especially the miscommunication between Becca and her best friend in the beginning about all the boys and what she "supposedly" did with them.
I do understand however, that some of it was needed for conflict and intrigue....

I have had a family emergency for the past 2 months... so I am behind on the group reads. :( Hoping to pick this book up soon though.

I'm about halfway through the book, and I have to say I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would! I think I had low expectations to begin with, but now I'm flying through the pages! If I didn't have to work so much, I'd probably be done by now. :P

That work can definitely put a dampener on reading!

Just out of curiousity, why do you think you had low expectations? I did too and I can't exactly put a finger on why. I'm glad it's exceeding your expections though!

I can't quite put my finger on the reasoning behind it either! Maybe it was because controlling the elements is something that has been done many times before. Maybe it was because it's not a very popular book and hasn't been talked about a lot. I'm not sure! But we can always find diamonds in the rough I suppose. :)
