Howdy all.
So I've been blogging for quite a while over at www.toastedjamsandwich.wordpress.com but not often and it quite often gets ranty. Luckily my equally as ranty and bookwormy girlfriend and I have set up a join blog over at www.bentspines.wordpress.com

We will be having a theme every month and blog about the books we choose to read for those themes and I will also be having my own little comic book corner as well. Although there are no posts up there just now I will no doubt update and pester you all when there are!

Yea, the second link is where the new geekery and book reading will all be (I can't post a first post until my girlfriend wakes up) and the first link is where my normal life rants take place.

Lashya Wilson | 94 comments Oh. Ok.

You hadn't answered my question ::
Do we need to Sign In or Log In just to post comments ???????????

Or do we need to be Signed In or Logged In just to post comments ???????????

I'm not entirely sure. I think to post comments you need an email address but I don't think you need to sign in to a Wordpress account or anything. My mum has posted a couple of comments and she doesn't have a blog.

We have done our first post. Our spider interviewed us about books. http://bentspines.wordpress.com/2012/...

message 14: by Lashya (new)

Lashya Wilson | 94 comments I'll look at it, now.

message 15: by Lashya (new)

Lashya Wilson | 94 comments I read it, and I enjoyed reading it, but, I will say that I like it here, on goodreads, because I am not Signed In or Logged In, to WordPress yet. Sorry.

Webster is cool !!!!!!!!!
What kind of spider is he ????????????

Lashya Wilson | 94 comments Hey, I just noticed something about your name, Stefani.

Doesn't that pop singer Gwen Stefani spell her name like you?????????????? Or you spell yours like her ?????????????????????

message 22: by Stefani - SpelingExpirt, White Rabbit (new)

Stefani - SpelingExpirt (speling_expirt) | 305 comments Mod
Well she's older but then my mum had never heard of her when she named me so probably a coincidence. She also pronounces the A like AR whereas my name is just pronounced normally.

Amazing choices! Jasper Fforde and Christopher Brookmyre are two of the best authors around just now. If you're not familiar with the Scottish dialect then Brookmyre might be a little difficult at first because he very much writes how we speak over here, please stick with him though his stories are very worth it!

message 26: by Lashya (new)

Lashya Wilson | 94 comments You're Scottish, and from Scotland ????????

I think I'd be able to read it correctly, once I heard how they/ya'll speak, FIRST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stefani - SpelingExpirt (speling_expirt) | 305 comments Mod
Probably not harder than Shakespeare but definitely hard. I'd advise watching some videos of Scots to make it easier to read, what makes it worse is that his characters are often Glaswegian which is the broadest accent of them all!

message 28: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Tarn (barbaragtarn) Stefani, check in the Dashboard the setting for comments. You probably should change it there - non-WP users couldn't comment on my blog for over a year until I changed the comments setting in the Dashboard. That way Lashya will be able to comment (although probably not "like", as I think that's for WP users)! :)
I love WP! :D

Thanks Barbara, I didn't know I could change comment settings. I've just had a look and it was already set to let people that don't have a WP blog to comment but they do need to fill out their name and email address.

message 37: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (xitomatl) Love the recap of your year of books. What did you think of those Veronica Roth books? Are they YA? It's something I generally stay away from, although I did read The Hunger Games. First YA book I've read since I was, like, 8!

message 38: by Stefani - SpelingExpirt, White Rabbit (new)

Stefani - SpelingExpirt (speling_expirt) | 305 comments Mod
Thanks! I've always been very torn by YA books, sometimes (Hunger Games) they can be imaginative and not condescending of the aimed age group but other times (Twilight) they can just be a steaming pile of crap!
I think the Veronica Roth ones are certainly closer to Hunger Games in imagination and style but they also seem to be following the same basic trilogy formula that defined the Hunger Games series which seems to be a growing trend in YA dystopias.

message 40: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Have you read Robopocalypse? You mentioned that you didn't like how World War Z jumped around so much. Robopocalypse is similar in that it shows the conflict from the beginning to the end through different stories but with recurring viewpoints.

Personally I preferred the disjointedness of World War Z, but it sounds like you would enjoy Robopocalypse.

I made Rhianna review a book series just for you Lela!

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked 'An Eyre Affair' a lot because it was so serious, but being a medical person, the lack of reality in oh-so-serious 'World War Z' drove me up the wall. Ick! I hope Robopocalypse is better.

Michelle - I know what you mean, I get angry at shows or films I'm watching if journalists start acting illegally and pretending like that's what happens all the time I get annoyed at it for being factually inaccurate.

Lela - I can practically see Rhianna's head get bigger when I tell her your comments. Hopefully she will blog regularly for her constant fix of ego boosting though ;)
