The theme is finding out who you really are because in the begining of the book Annabel thought she was this perfect girl with friends and a great family but suddenly everything changed and she realized that she wasn't.

In An Na's realistic fiction book "A Step from Heaven", the protagonist is Young Ju who is growing up after making an arrival in America. Young Ju has been growing up with her parents and her brother Joon. Ju's parents always ends up in fights which affects Ju growing up in life. Ju's father is the one who gets drunk and gets violent. Young Ju lately have had a big problem in her family that caused the family to fall apart. The family came to America for a better life, but couldn't reach what they needed. Young Ju's father had been mad over the amount of money he earns, he no longer believes that he could have a better life in America. He starts a fight with her wife and then things got violent. Young Ju's father was arrested and he divorced his wife. Young Ju was very heart broken. After reading this, it shows a big theme. On page 107 (Pages Different on Nook), "Apa throws me on the couch and stands in front of me heaving, his nostrils flared, eyes think with anger. Apa starts hitting his family and then on page 110, "After the police handcuff Apa and take him away, Uhmma drives down to the police station with her face so badly bruised and misshapen an officer forces her to go to a hospital." These quotes shows how Apa (Young Ju's father) was getting violent and then gets his life in a very bad condition where he does not want to be. He was then arrested and also lost his family. He almost lost everything he had and now he has no more hope for a better future. This example shows a theme to don't let your anger control you because it can cause you to have bad results. Apa was angry that he had no hope in America so he got violet. He let go of himself to let his anger take control, he was soon fighting and got in big trouble. Therefore, the biggest theme of my book is to don't let anger control you because it can cause bad results.
