Pieces of Sky

I'm rereading Make-Believe Mistletoe by Gina Wilkins. In it, alot of families/people are stranded at a mountainside cabin due to weather. The cabin is owned by a recluse who does woodworking who happens to have made some old fashioned wooden toys which he gifts to the children on christmas morning. He may not look like Santa (although our heroine fantasizes about just that lol) but he acted like one, so it sort of qualifies. (He also trudges out into an ice storm to find a suitable tree, cut it down, build a stand for it and bring it in for the kids to decorate for xmas.) Can't remember but at one time he might have had a beard in the book.
