Kim (kadykayf) What do you think of Becca as a character? What do you think happened to her that made others harass her (if you have finished the book, discuss what you thought of the reveal and please make sure to mark it as "spoiler")?

Grace (gdaminato) | 520 comments Why didn't she just talk to people when it was clear they didn't understand what she did - or why she was doing it? I know, it would have been a different book. But I'd really like to challenge authors to write something good where the tension comes from genuine peril and not the characters' inability to communicate effectively.

Kim (kadykayf) I often found myself very frustrated with Becca because she just wouldn't communicate. It would have caused a lot less trouble.

*Layali* (layalireads) | 95 comments I'm about halfway through at the moment.

I feel like Becca is putting up a huge wall by not explaining to anyone. She's shutting out her dad for not being there for her, and she's shutting out her peers for harassing her. I don't blame her... If people said nasty things about me, I'd probably say "screw them" because it's nobody's business what really happens in her life except for those closest to her. She has no obligation to explain to anyone if she doesn't feel it's necessary.

I can't really blame her either. I find it frustrating that she doesn't communicate well, but I can't blame her for being the way she is. I thought her reaction was pretty typical for a young adult actually.

I agree with you! And then after we find out what she really does, it's no wonder she doesn't want to tell anyone about it! It's an embarrassing situation to be in, and I'm sure she was ashamed of what had happened.

That whole group of boys and half the school was just plain MEAN. >.<
