Hey I have been meaning to read Outlander but have been having a hard time talking myself into it because it is so darn long. So I was hoping that with a buddy I would finally buckle down and give it a shot.

I have adored Outlander and the subsequent books. They are well worth the time and effort if you like great character/plot development and the details of history. I like to say that Outlander is The Thorn Birds x 100. Hope that is encouraging.
I'll join you guys too. I'm kinda reading this on the side this month. I am doing a challenge that picks a word every Friday so I read that and then come back to this until the next word is called. Right now I'm on page 62. Some of this dialog is rough. The Scottish slang definitely takes some getting used to.
I loved this book! I listened to it on Audible and it was narrated by Davina Porter. She did a great job with the voices and accents. I really loved Jamie's Scottish accent. I purchased the second book on Audible, be sure to post it if you decide to do a buddy read on it. I really needed someone to discuss the first book with when I was reading it.
I couldn't read it. I got about 100 pages in and DNF.. I am sure it was epic for some, fell totally flat on me.. My attention span walked away.. good luck if you finish
Sonyetta - Another group that I'm in is reading the entire series starting the first of the year. Here's the thread. You can just jump in whenever you want. Here's the link to that thread.http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
They're actually starting buddy reads for a bunch of series in 2013.
I felt the same way... it took me forever to start reading it, partly because of its length, but I'm glad I did. Great book!
So thrilled you are reading this book. Jamie and Claire are my favorite couple in the literary world, have read this 3 times and it is still wonderful every time and the series gets stronger as you read the next books! Enjoy...

Thanks for the link!!
Is anyone getting anywhere with this book? I am reading two books at one time, but this one seems to be going pretty slow.
You have to give it some time. I felt the same way at the beginning. I didn't have lots of people recommending the book, just happened upon it on kindle. I wondered where it would go, and was glad I kept at it.
I've heard so many great things about this and want to read it, but it so BIG!!! :)
You really have to stick with it until she goes back in time and meets up with the Highlanders. It lagged in a few spots, but once (view spoiler) it picked up and kept my interest the rest of the book. So keep reading! :)

It's starting to get better. I'm a little over a hundred pages in. They are at the castle now and she has met Mrs. Fitz. I wasn't really connecting with anyone but I'm starting to now. I like Jamie and Mrs Fitz. There hasn't been much depth to any of the other characters yet.
