If it keeps my interest for the first 300 pages I'll finish if not I'll quit. I cannot blindly commit for 1500 pages though
I'm interested as it is on my tbr, but never realised it was that long!! I will have a look closer to the date, but put me down as an interested interloper.

I joined groups to get away from thrillers and fantasy and widen my genres so might as well give it a whirl. I can read anything with a good plot and there seems a bit of historical fiction to this which I like.
I read this back in 92 or 93. I was in the Coast Guard at the time. We were underway and this book ruined my summer. 14 hour workdays and then at nights I couldn't put this book down. And not only did it keep me up - it was HEAVY too!
That's when ebooks or audiobooks come in handy. They don't give you carpal tunnel from holding a heavy book.
First thing I did was check to see if any men had reviewed it and there were several some even giving it 4 or 5 stars. I check every boom for reviews to see if it is mostly men or women reading them.
Janice, back when I was on the boat we didn't have no E-readers. We just built a doc so we could pull the dinosaur up to the ship and make it carry our books! E-readers!
I'm interested in this Judy. I checked the other day to see if it's available for Kindle and it's not. It would be nice it it is by next year---nice for my wrists and hands I'm thinking. I'm assuming there will be reminders along the way.
Judy wrote: "Oh, good, Sue. I'm glad you will be joining in. Were you talking about a reminder to read this?"Yes--just a general reminder.I did put a reminder in my Firefox reminders but I haven't put the schedule in yet. I'll leave that for much closer to the time. I really do want to read this. I read 2 books by Rohinton Mistry this year and they were excellent. Indian literature now intrigues me (like Chinese and Japanese and Russian and.....

I own this, so may join you. I won't say definitely as committing to things makes me not want to do them!
I read this book a couple years ago and I really enjoyed it! I won't be reading it again, but I am looking forward to reading the discussion!
I realize that this buddy read is not for awhile yet but I wanted to post this before I forget. As I stated earlier, I read this book a couple of years ago. I just came across a vocabulary cheat sheet that I made for myself while I was reading the book. When I read the book I was not very familiar with the Indian terminology. If anyone is interested, I will gladly send it to you. Just let me know.
Gaeta1...can you pm me your e-mail address? I have this in a table format and I won't be able to send via goodreads pm.Anyone else who is interested, please pm me your email address.
Well I've just checked Kindle and they do have it. I'm interested, however you're starting in September which is my busiest time of year (I tend to work from 60 to 90 hours a week that month) so I could fall behind right from the start.
I am really interested in reading it though so put me down, if it get's too much then I'll just have to drop out ::shrugs::
April - I'd be interested in your vocabulary cheat sheet, it sounds like it could be useful.
Lynn, I just checked and all I see is A suitable Boy Lesson Plan. sadly. I also looked and you live in the United Kingdom. Maybe it's available there but not in the U.S. Crazy how that happens.
I've just checked again in case I made a mistake and it was the lesson plan. It's definitely there; full book, no lesson plan. Maybe it's as you said it's something to do with UK / US
Lynn...if you PM me your e-mail address, I will gladly send it. In order for me to send via goodreads PM, I would have to redo the entire document.

I know that this can go both ways. There was an offer for a free Lee Child novel yesterday but it was specifically NOT for anyone in the US. I really hope A Suitable Boy comes out here for Kindle before September...it's so huge I don't know what it will do to my hands.
So I am searching for it on Kobo books and it keeps on giving my porn, Lance Armstrong's "biography" and the Boy Scouts Handbook. /sighI'm going to look for an open source ebook of it, will you know if I find one.
Thanks. Maybe if a lot of people request it at Amazon it will help. We now know it's available as an ebook in the UK.

This looks very good. I read the first 3 pages online via Amazon preview. I'm interested in joining in, especially if I can arrange to check this out during the appropriate time.
I will try and join in also. Not sure if I'll be able to stick it out til the end, but I'll give it a shot!April, I would love to have a copy of your cheatsheet if you don't mind sending it. My email is violetsme@gmail.com.
You know, I have read this almost 20 years ago, mid 90's As I was going to work on a contract in middle-of-nowhere, a friend gave it to me as she figured out I would have plenty of time. Perfect! It did take me a while and I enjoyed it a lot. I am actually considering revisiting it with you. I probably will not reread it all, but probably skimmed through my copy to refresh my memory and discuss it with you.

I want to thank Sue so much for letting me know about this group read. I've been planning to read A Suitable Boy for a long time. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and to sharing the experience of reading this book with you.
Sue let me know about the buddy read, too. My five-pound copy arrived the other day--looking forward!
Sara wrote: "Sue let me know about the buddy read, too. My five-pound copy arrived the other day--looking forward!"I think I'll be getting the 2.5 lb copy but haven't got it yet. I keep hoping for a kindle edition but it's getting a bit late for that. It will probably come after we read the book!
I have my huge book ready by my side since last month. I think if I read it, the spine will crack. LOL!
That's What I think too Pragya. Can't imagine how the book will stay together. It will be nice to read a book with you again.
