I had only read a couple of YA books before this so I'm no expert but I loved this book and immediately went out and bought insurgent which I'll read soon. Every book I read these days blows my mind, I'm on moon dwellers now so no pressure David lol ! Strong lead characters for me make good books, and Divergent has this along with a compelling plot.
LOL so glad you liked it Michael. Insurgent was awesome too :) Thanks for fitting in The Moon Dwellers, I hope it doesn't let you down!
This is one of my favorite dystopians too! I can't wait until the third book comes out. I'm a bit nervous though. lol.
I like Divergent but I HATED Insurgent. I just couldn't get through it. I'm debating about reading the 3rd book when it comes out. I probably will but Divergent was REALLY good! The second book in my opinion was a disappointment.
Okay don't shoot me but I haven't read this series yet! I keep trying to get to it but something else keeps getting mt attention! Uugghhhh
Aww Susan, that's ok, it's probably better that way, now you can wait for the third book and read them all at once. No waiting, see? And of course we would never shoot you, not even virtually :)

Ouch, really? Hated it? That's a strong word! What about the part where she takes the funny drink from the Amity? Hilarious! I thought it wasn't as good as the first but I still liked it hehe

Yeah I hated it, sorry guys. LOL but I just really couldn't get into it. It was boring and it dragged. I don't know why since I liked the first one so much.
LOL that's OK, everyone's different in what they like. I'm glad you liked the first one anyway :)
Another one of my favorite series. The characters, the writing....all of it. Tris and Four are just an amazing fierce couple!
I read it last month for Book Club at school :DWe're now reading Insurgent.
(even though I myself haven't started... but will soon :D)

I liked Divergent better than The Hunger Games too. I mean, I really liked THG, but I didn't love it, and Mockingjay just pissed me off. That's why I'm a little nervous about the third Divergent book.lol.
Book was Amazing!!! Easily rivals that of the HG, but I love them both. I love the different factions...

yep! I think most of the members made a beeline for it, XD (well, I know I did. IDK about the others, haha)
THG was OK. They're similar in a way but awesome in a unique way :3
I loved both Divergent and Insurgent and have been lending my copy to many friends, all of which seem to love it too! They are now casting for the Divergent movie, and although I think this has great potential for being a movie it also has great potential for ruining the story line. The actor who plays Cato in THG is close to being cast as Four, and he doesn't fit the picture I have of Four in my head, but of course that is just me. Along with the movie coming out, there are probably going to be a lot more people reading Divergent. I think the movie is set to come out in March of 2014, but I could be wrong.

Yay! I am not alone (as I usually am). I thought this was very overrated and the world building left a lot to be desired. I also HATE instalove stories and this one definitely had that. I've read worse and didn't hate it but I had high expectations for this and was let down
I started it a few weeks ago (about a 1/3 of the way through - slow reader). I have been VERY impressed so far. I have a hard time with first-person (I still haven't been able to get past the first few pages of the hunger games because of it...I know, I know)...but I have been VERY impressed with the writing style and the story has drawn me in so far.
yeah i think the title will be Resurgent, it seems fitting for the final book.
i love writing in first person as well.
can you imagine the cover?????

SweetDee85 - I'll rephrase - I have a hard time with a lot of the 1st person novels I have read in the last few years, especially in YA. I like getting inside the protag's mind and the view it offers, but sometimes the writers of 1st person can be very lazy and give us a) too much information and b) way too much "I".
Again, personal opinion. But, as I said, I have been enjoying Divergent because the writing is strong and I don't have to read, "I, I, I" every other sentence.
I finally gave in and read Divergent. I was trying really hard to wait till I could get Insurgent as I was warned about the cliff hanger but after a friend talking about how much they loved it I gave in. I really liked it. I loved the different factions there different personalities though I kind of wished that instead of a sim test to determine where they should be I think it would have been more interesting if they had to experience life in all of the factions for a few days or so before choosing.

Ooh yeah, that's an awesome idea!

Have you read Insurgent yet? Everyone's speculating as to what the third one will be called. Mostly I'm hearing Convergent or Resurgent :)

I've heard a lot of other GR friends who have issues with the first person in books so you are not alone Chris.
i found this!!!!
What if your whole world was a lie?
What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything?
What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?
The explosive conclusion to Veronica Roth’s #1 New York Times bestselling Divergent trilogy reveals the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.
Harper-Collins confirms to Hypable that the page count is currently 544 pages long but this number could change as Roth continues to work on the story. If it stays around this number, it will be the longest book in the trilogy.
