I'm a big fan of Name of the Wind (and the sequel) and Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrel, and Lord of the Rings. So rambly books with good world building a an author with a bit of poetry in their soul. Does anyone have any suggestions of other books that are similar?

Have you read Guy Gavriel Kay? This is the author that instantly came to my mind when you asked for someone with a poet's soul.
Traci: I've tried Kay before, but maybe I read the wrong one, or was in a bad mood, who knows. Maybe I'll try to read his Lion one.Paulo: I think I've read all of Sanderson's books. I have to give his huge epic series another try, gave up around page 300 last time.
How about Assassin's Apprentice? Or The Curse of the Mistwraith?I've read the first and liked it, haven't read the second choice but from what I've heard you might because of the books you named.
I wouldn't call it "poetry" but have you read The Eye of the World? I'm reading that now and it reminds me very much of Lord of the Rings.
Rambly books, good world building, poetry in their soul.Perdido Street Station
Very rambling, huge descriptive prose leads to complete immersion in ths amazing world. No one doubts the authors poetry in his soul.
Some people find the book hard because of the rambling, but if you like that, I would recommend.
You can read my review here, there are no spoilers.
Thanks guys, especially the specific examples Traci and Lee!The only one I'm not sure of on this list is David Gemmell. Which book series would one suggest?
Ok, several of the authors I was thinking of have already been mentioned, so how about - J. V. Jones - Sword of Shadows series
David Anthony Durham - Acacia series
Daniel Abraham - The Long Price Quartet
and Guy Gavriel Kay - you should check out The Fionavar Tapestry.
Each of these series is unique and each author has quite different approaches to story telling, but I think that their works speak for themselves.
Catherynne M Valente certainly fulfills the poetry in the soul condition, eventhough her stuff is not high fantasy you might want take a look at In the Night Garden and it's companion book In the Cities of Coin and Spice.
I was absolutely enchanted by Valente's The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making. I know it's a kid book but it's gorgeous. Not too rambly. But great world building (if it does borrow from the classics) and poetic.
orson Scott card is one of the best. his Alvin Maker series is phenomenal. Also, try the Dark Sword Trilogy.
Try Peter V Brett's The Demon Cycle Book 1 isThe Warded Man or Theft of Swords by Michael Sullivan. Daniel Abraham's new series Dagger and Coin is Pretty good to.
David wrote: "I'm a big fan of Name of the Wind (and the sequel) and Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrel, and Lord of the Rings. So rambly books with good world building a an author with a bit of poetry in their soul..."I recommend Brandon Sanderson. He offers everything you're looking for. There's also plenty of action in his books, which is always good. Try Mistborn or The Way of Kings.

Also, I'll third Paulo and Johnny on Sanderson!
Tales of Malazan - Book of the Fallen would meet your requirements. Many of the above are great as well.

If you are nominating for a new series, please try the other thread entitled 'Life After the Wheel of Time'.
Thanks, Jon
You can't go wrong with Sanderson or Jordan, but if 800 page bricks aren't your thing then try some old Feist. Magician is a great book. Try Joe Abercrombie if you don't mind violence, profanity and sex.
