It wasn't a surprise, it was implied in The Iron Knight. When Ash had a vision of what his future could be with a soul, they had a kid.

I wasn't surprised. In the Iron Knight when Ash dreamed of his future with a soul, they had a son named Keirran, so when that was supposed to be the big "shocker" twist, I was a little bit disappointed. :P

i new they were one day going to have a kid since there so in love but not this early and not all at that age already in the sequel lol my mouth dropped!!

i wasn't surprised, did you read the iron legends with all the novellas? You figured out pretty quickly they would have a kid. i liked it, you need to remember that the Fey age much differently then humans (i think it was explained in the book how Keirran was the same age as Ethan) I really really liked it.
