Contemporary American Poetry discussion

Just curious what the best book of poetry in 2012 was for you. I just finished Thomas Lux's new book and thought it was strong, but not his best. And I'm going through my shelves to pinch my memory, but while I'm doing that, I'm curious what your memorable poetry reads were this year.

I agree with you too Gerry, Lux's new collection is worth reading, but uneven.

I'm still just in the opening pages, but I would have to put Jack Gilbert's Collected Poems in my best of list, even if ignoring the fact that he recently passed away. I really enjoyed his last collection, so am looking forward to reading more of his poetry.

I will have to think about other new collections that I've read from this year's publications.

Gilbert, of course, is wonderful. I really like Dennis Nurkse's book A NIGHT IN BROOKLYN.
