My personal opinion: Rock. Pop is mostly autotuned, but some of the artists aren't bad and I just plain hate modern rap.
Well, my favorite is rap but I also listen to rock at times. I don't really ever listen to pop, it's just not my kind of music, I'm not putting anything against it. One thing though, I really do not like that horrible excuse for rap that they play on the radio these days. It's all so dumb, closed minded, and unoriginal, talking about the same stuff (money, drugs, sex). That's what irks me: they make all that "rap" music popular to the mainstream which makes listeners of other genres just write off rap as another ignorant attempt at making music and just a shallow way of making money.
I personally do not like artists like Cheif Keef, 2 Chains, Rick Ross, the rest of MMG, Lil Wayne (especially his stuff from the Carter 3 and afterwords), the rest of Young Money (although I will admit Drake has his good moments), Soulja Boy (can he even be considered a rapper?), etc. They are the main reason rap is looked down upon by other genres.
But the main people that ridicule rap really haven't actually heard what it has to offer because they are too lazy to actually look deeper than the mainstream layer that is spoon fed to us and blasted through people's stereos as they cruise down the street.
I appreciate rap music that actually has intricate lyricism (great wordplay, excellent use of literary techniques, complex/original rhymes, word dexterity, etc.) , a good topic (be it an inspiring message, a recounting of ones hardships, a story, or something fresh that you don't usually here talked about), unique instrumentals, original ideas (i.e Eminem - Stan, Nas - Rewind, and more), and really makes you think about what you heard (i.e almost all Aesop Rock songs). People just don't understand how deep and complex so much rap really is, thanks to this little bit of it that is on the radio and was just made for people to dance to the beat.
So yeah, my favorite between the three is rap, although I like rock too. And like I said earlier, pop just isn't really my thing. They all require tremendous talent and hard work, though, and really neither is better than the other. When it comes to the best things in life, like music, food, books, movies etc., all we have are opinions.

Why isn't there a LIKE button here? I really liked what you had to say, Anthony. To begin with, I started liking rap because of the challenge it posed for me to understand what was being said (I come from a place where English isn't the mother-tongue), as well as the beats. But I got hooked to it for the lyrics and the delivery style as well. Rap felt just like a conversation with a friend - heart to heart!
What with: "if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted-One moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?" OR
"Have you ever loved someone so much, you'd give an arm for?
Not the expression, no, literally give an arm for?
When they know they're your heart
And you know you were their armor
And you will destroy anyone who would try to harm her
But what happens when karma, turns right around and bites you?
And everything you stand for, turns on you to spite you?
What happens when you become the main source of her pain?
"Daddy look what I made", Dad's gotta go catch a plane"
If I were doing any of such things, I'd expect my best friend to speak his/her heart out and ask those questions of me, make me realize that I'm committing a mistake, or encourage me to do better. This is what rap does - talks to you like a friend. I hardly can understand what rockers say over the din of the blasting music, and pop is just too cozy. Moreover, pop feels like the singers are telling us 'their' story or sharing 'their' feelings. It's not direct, its not personal, and its not 'raw' like rap - its not 'your' story.
And yes, I agree that any kind of music is hard work and has hold on a lot of people, but this was just what I feel about my choice of music.

Rap has a lot of promise, I hope it doesn't get tainted any further and rappers listen to what their audience has to say, what they really want to hear (or dont want to hear).

Thanks for agreeing with me. And I must say I respect you for the Eminem quotes seeing as he is my all-time favorite artist.

I don't really ever listen to pop, it's just not my kind of music, I'm not pu..."Yes, you're right. However, at least it feels to me, more rap is actually lyrically conscious and complex, it's just that the more dumbed down, generic lyrics are what gets pushed and that's why it feels seems like ALL rap is like that to people who do not follow the genre. But maybe it seems like there is more lyrical rap to me because I am always looking for great rap lyricists, not unoriginal, repetitive rapstars. Honestly, I feel that rap is the most lyrical form of music there is, but that is of course just my opinion. Aesop Rock, for example, is one of the most lyrically complex and unique musical artists there has ever been (rap or otherwise) in my opinion. I just wish so many people wouldn't put rap in a box and would actually look deeper into the music (yes, that is a reference to a Tyler, the Creator quote).
Another thing I've noticed: whenever I do see fans of non-mainstream rap, they always usually have respect for other genres. But with many other genres, I always seem to find people that say how "just hate rap", how "it requires no musical talent", and how "they all always talk about the same thing'. If you don't like something, just don't like it, but you don't have to put it down. And if you are going to put it down, at least give good reasons for doing so. It really bugs me how some people seem to think that because they have a certain taste in music, any other taste, especially if it involves rap music, is not correct, or at least not as good as their's. Yes, I said that rap was my favorite of the three, but I also mentioned that I like rock too and did not have anything against pop music, it is just not my style. That doesn't mean I think it sucks. None of them are better than the other anyway, there is no fact that states one genre of music is better than the other, so we might as well respect each other's opinions.
Rock all the way. I don't mind the current stuff, but I really love classic rock like Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and the Beatles.

I totally agree with you you're right rap has become a very vulgar place with less, and less meaning with each new release that comes out on the radio, but to say that ALL rap is like that is pretty ignorant. First of all rap is never gonna be something that ever helps our generation, it's almost always gonna have some type of negative effect on anyone (not just our generation). For example look at artists like Action Bronson a reoccurring topic in his music is killing people, in one music video, he kills a girl throws her in his trunk, and then takes her hair off and says, "I'm wearing this sh***t now." Last time I checked no one is ever gonna look at this as positive. But the song itself has very clever wordplay, metaphors, punch lines, and other literary devices. Bottom line is you can tell how much thought, and time he put into developing a story line that makes since, and still managing to make it sound like a catchy single. However, a lot of raps made today are really stupid and are about sex, drugs, money, and are really corrupting our generation You say that today they are making our generation bad, but think about back in the day when our parents were listening to groups like N.W.A. (Ni***as With Attitude) that group of people is not a homely bunch, so that means our parents generation is also corrupted...... Basically what you said is that every generation that has rap is corrupted. So the next one, the one after that, and so on and so forth will be corrupted. But the thing that is different about our generation is that our rap has more meaning, and has developed better than old school rap people like Tyler, the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Action Bronson, Eminem, Jack Mushroom, Captain Murphy, and many more are making the rap game itself worse, but still a certain amount of progression in their music......

I didn't say all rap was terrible, just most raps today. I realize there are some rap songs that are very good. I already pointed out eminem was a great artist, as well as Tupac and Lil Wayne's "how to love". But a lot of mainstream rap music made today doesn't sound like art or requires much talent. An artist would have innovative lyrics that are symbolic and whatnot but nicki minaj has a song entitled "stupid hoe"

At least pretty much everything that came out in 2011 and 2012 and I don't think he has much earlier than that.
My favorite is Rock :) It just rocks its way to my heart~ Oh god, that sounds cheesy and lame =)) And also as long as it's not metal, I'm all good. Screamo makes my ear bleed when it plays in the whole song. But if there isn't much, I don't mind :)
I like Pop and Rock. I listen to both an equal amount of time but I just can't stand Rap. Now and then there are some good rap artists such as Eminem, but I honestly don't like Rap and what they say in their songs. I mean I'm not telling them to stop, thats basically what the genre is about but I just wished they would rap about more decent stuff. The lyrics are very degrading and sometimes just insulting. I can't listen to Rap unless its Eminem.

Rock, baby, rock! From alt rock to rap rock to punk rock, to classic rock to, well, just rock. Am all up for it! Ah, though I don't listen to heavy metal as much as i do for the other types. Screamo's good, but if they use it for the whole song, err, yeah. \m/
Rock 5evaI really like the sound of rock… Especially songs with more instruments and complex bass lines ahh
Pop, eehhhh no
I never really listen to rap.
Rock is better. WAY more structure, each song is unique, never annoying and frankly unbeatable. MUSE ALL THE WAY!
All three major genres of music are quite good. But I would have to say my favorite of the three would be-ROCK. Classic rock, punk rock(my favorite subcategory in the magnificent rock genre<3)indie rock, alternative rock, metal, screamo, whatever. Anything slightly rock-ish..XD
I'm not into modern pop music that much, such as Justin Bieber or all of those...artists. But there are some excellent pop artists out there
And rap....i don't hate it, but i don't listen to it as much as I listen to rock. Or even pop(Which I rarely listen to.)Eminem...or any other rapper...uh...not my style of music. But I don't hate it like some people do. Like, Linkin Park has some rapping in their songs, but not like, all through the song. I'm okay with that. And their words aren't a bunch of gibberish..it makes sense and it sounds cool;P
