I've read a lot of book reviews saying it's pretty bad, but I liked the first book... so is this worth reading and carrying on with the series?

Yeah, I actually think the series gets better and better with each book. In the Exiled Queen you'll hear more about the world outside of their little kingdom, and spend a lot of time reading about it, but then Han and Raisa meet again...yeah, especially if you liked the first book - KEEP GOING.

This series is amazing. Reviews are subjective. What you reckon good may appear bad to another. Its best to decide upon reading it yourself.I loved it so i personally recommend <3
I can understand why people have been reviewing this one badly. There is a maturity in the first book, a seriousness that I really grew to respect, especially within the YA genre. This novel, however, sees a fairly severe gear shift as they go to school. Suddenly the situations the main characters encounter are utterly trivial and adolescent - especially in stark contrast to the importance of the events in book 1 as well as what we all know is coming.
I felt a tension the whole time I was reading, KNOWING that we needed to get back to the serious stuff and stop wasting time.
About 150-200 pages in I found myself asking "when did this turn into Harry Potter?" because everything about it takes a turn for the silly and it just didn't mesh well with my first impression of the series. However, after staggering a little I felt like the book leveled out quite nicely for the last quarter and I ended up liking it just fine. The rest of the series is absolutely worth it.
I don't really see a lot of negative reviews for this book. I think it's just that first 2 star review when you go to the main page that might be throwing people off. That crazy girl seems to be going on quite a rant, but I don't really understand what her point is, or why she doesn't recommend this series...
Yeah, I thought the whole series was good. I really like #3. #4 is good as well, though I think it left a lot of things open for continuation.
If you enjoyed the first book, you'll like the second one. I'm just starting the third one now. Can't wait to read it! I have to find out what happens!!

For me, the whole series were the kind of books that you just can't put down.
this book is worth reading because it will blow your mind and you will feel sad after you've run out of pages and this book will make you want to read more of it over and over again.
I certainly enjoyed the series.
Honestly, it becomes more interesting and complex with each installation. One thing that bothers me, though, is that the climaxes are pretty lame.
