Hey all!I'm just going to throw a few random ones out there to see if anyone else is interested (I couldn't find any specifically on online communications/activism, though some of these have chapters or aspects on this). You should be able to see details about them all on Amazon or with a general search. In no particular order...
Defying ocean's end : an agenda for action / edited by Linda K. Glover and Sylvia A. Earle
Oceans : the threats to our seas and what you can do to turn the tide : a participant media guide / edited by Jon Bowermaster
Blue frontier : saving America's living seas / David Helvarg
The Environmental Responsibility Reader by Reynolds, Blackmore and Smith
EcoMind: Changing the Way We Think, to Create the World We Want
by Frances Moore Lappé
Cheers,
Deb
Great suggestions, Deb, and thanks for getting the conversation going! Here are a few more ideas:
The Ocean of Life: The Fate of Man and the Sea
Infographics: The Power of Visual Storytelling
Measuring the Networked Nonprofit: Using Data to Change the World

Great recommendations Britt and Deb! You suggested a couple I had in mind as well. Here are a few more:The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight: The Fate of the World and What We Can Do Before It's Too Late by Thom Hartmann
Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed by Jared Diamond
The World Is Blue: How Our Fate and the Ocean's Are One by Sylvia Earle
Cool.. I also have Callum Robert's 'The Unnatural History of the Sea' sitting here on my shelf unread! (he's the same guy who wrote The Ocean of Life: The Fate of Man and the Sea). Gettin closer now to the bit where we say 'How on earth (or sea!) do we choose!' ;-)
I created a poll, based on your book recommendations, to help us select our first book:

Please take a moment to vote and share it with your ocean activist peeps!

I didn't include some of your recommendations in the poll, not because they weren't awesome, but because there were issues with price, or access:
The Environmental Responsibility Reader, The Unnatural History of the Sea, and Defying Ocean's End cost over $22.
Blue frontier doesn't have a Kindle version.
Oceans: The Threats to Our Seas and What You Can Do to Turn the Tide is only available (for less than $22) from sellers other than Amazon, which tells me that it could be difficult for people to get a hold of.
EcoMind: Changing the Way We Think, to Create the World We Want is coming out in April 2013.
Thanks again for all the great suggestions!

Thanks Britt - poll was a great idea. Understand re my suggestions. I was actually being really low-tech (and low budget) for me and chose ones I could get out from the library (except EcoMind - saw that on here and it looked good!). Look forward to seeing which one is our starter.
Totally understand, Deb! So far Callum Robert's Ocean of Life is winning. Gonna promote one more time on the interwebs and then we'll move forward!
Hello Online Ocean Activists!
The Ocean of Life: The Fate of Man and the Sea by Callum Roberts is the winner of the poll. We'll have a tweetchat about it on Thursday Feb. 21 from 11 AM-Noon PT using the hashtag #oceanoflife.
Can't wait to discuss it with you!

Just back from holidays and looking forward to reading (and discussing) The Ocean of Life. May only be able to do the first half of the chat - but will do my best!
