El So... the Norwegian Wood meetings (both of 'em) apparently didn't work out so well. Dare we try again? Move on to a different book? Is anyone out there?

*crickets*

Open to suggestions, either about Buddy Reads, or scheduling meetings, whatever. Would love to get some chatter going, though I get that it's that pesky holiday season again and timing might be difficult.

I'm new to this group and have only met officially once for Serena, but had such a good time doing that. Would hate to see this crash and burn already. :)

I'm not really sure what to say. I'd hate to say things are crashing and burning, but nobody really wants to invest time into the book club.
I'm waiting for my copy of The Snow Child, and I would like to discuss Norwegian wood, so maybe we can just meet January 5th at Alma and talk books then?

El Yeah, sounds good. Happy to meet wherever/whenever. The more the merrier (for all of you viewing here but not posting, wink wink)! I'm new here to this whole thing but I have some ideas of some not-dumb stuff we could do with our reading choices if people are interested.

If there are conflicts, concerns, grievances, whatever - it'd be great if people spoke up and shared them. I think the more communication we have, the better. We'll get a better idea as to what people want out of a book club, whatever.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Amanda | 3 comments I have plenty of time to invest... Was eager to meet before the end of January & showed up to two book club meetings. Also contacted you, El, on Facebook about reading a book together for the Jan 5 house party.

So I am here & eager to participate :)

El Wait, what? I didn't get anything from you on FB! Let me look into that. FB is an electronic douche-bag sometimes. Grr. This isn't the first time someone has said they sent me a message that I didn't receive. Strangely my settings indicate anyone can send me a message? Anyone FB savvy enough to explain that one?

Sorry, Amanda. I don't know what to say about that. Can you send me a message here? Goodreads doesn't seem to eat my messages the same way.

In any case, thanks, Amanda, for being eager to participate. It was fun meeting you for Serena - I think that turned out to be a great discussion!

ETA: Sorry, Amanda, I asked some people and apparently there's this "Others" folder in FB where non-friend messages go. Would have been nice if knew about that. I totally found it and will respond to you there. :)

Amanda | 3 comments No worries! I am not great with Facebook either, so I get it. I actually was going to send you a private message on Goodreads but couldn't figure it out so resorted to Facebook.
I need to take Social Media 101 or something...

I would be up for meeting on the 5th to discuss Norwegian Wood if we can get several people to come. Besides us, I know Johnna read the book and would be willing to come if she doesn't have other plans.

It IS rather frustrating that so many people express interest in a book club yet many don't seem to be willing to invest the time into it. Maybe most people are just too busy...

It could just be that people are busy because of the holiday season. Why don't we see what happens January/February, when people don't have as much to do?

Travis, thank you so much for all the effort you are putting into getting this book club off the ground and coming up with all these great ideas for it.

I am willing to put in the time to participate in this book club. And if I ever feel like I can no longer put in the time, I will let you know.

El, you should post this (the first post on this thread at least) to the FB page to get more people to see it. If you'd rather, I could do it.

Brenda

El Sure, Brenda, just did a little cutting and pasting for FB.

Thanks for jumping in and saying stuff, guys!

Just want to know...are we still thinking about meeting at Alma on the 5th to discuss Norwegian Wood? Since it's on the same day as the party, I assume we would be meeting earlier in the day, right?

message 11: by El (new)

El Ah, I guess I was thinking it'd be at the party, but that was likely just a big brain fart on my end. I don't mind either way - either earlier or at Alma.

Anyone else have a preference?

Brenda (burendasan) | 5 comments Mod
Yeah, I just saw that the party IS at Alma (is that where you work, Travis?). So, let's just make it one of the mini book discussions at the party. If more than one person wants to discuss the book with me, that'd be just fine! :-)

We can talk about it at Alma. It's really just us getting together to hang out and talk about whatever, books included!
And no, I used to work at The Map Room, but recently quit(because the owner really sucks)Alma is way cooler.

Amanda | 3 comments Just wanted to stay I'm still here. Sorry I couldn't make it to the party, last minute job came up. :)

It's cool. We all talked about you the entire time, then we decided to fire you from the club. And then we changed our mind and rehired you. Congratulations!
