How old is your son, Audrey? I read a lot of children's fiction and picture books; I'd love some recommendations from a mother's perspective!

Audrey (godsmissiongal) | 173 comments He is 4.5 and loves books. He would want me to read to him all day if I could. We just started reading the Boxcar Children Series and he already loves them. He also likes History books. His favorite is a book about George Washington. He is in Kindergarten. I am really looking for books appropriate for his age. I am also going to start Little House on the Prairie within the next couple of months. My biggest recommendations would be the Heroes For Young Readers Series written by Renee Taft Meloche. I bought these books at a home school convention thinking he might sit through me reading them. Instead he begs me to read them and is often found listening to them on CD by himself. He loves them and so do I. They are written in verse and very easy reads but very educational. Some of them are a bit graphic but I can always replace a few sentences if need be. Fine for a 5-7 year old a little to much for a preschooler in my opinion in a few of the books. When talking about war or real life situations can get a bit gruesome...this is not the norm by any means however. You can get them on CD and with an activity book that is perfect for homeschooling. Each story has a corresponding song, coloring page, activity or craft, and a crossword or something similar. Each book builds on a specific character trait like courage for George Washington.

Nathan (nthnlwly) Cool! Thanks for the info. I'll definitely look into those books. :)
