Dr. Stephen Maturin in his rare friendship with Captain Jack Aubrey sets out on a new set of adventures in an unseaworthy warship of ill repute. For lovers of the sea and especially Napoleonic wars it is an exciting and memorable enterprise, including espionage, a battle against superior forces, disease etc.

One of his best, thoroughly enjoyable adventure. I would recommend this to anyone, he really brings the period to life.
Once again another series that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. Always was a fan of Tall Ships and their adventures. Even the bad guys "Pirates"
Great book. I love how the characters refer to there being multiple "Desolation Islands" in the world, which says something about what these specks of land in the vast oceans are really like. The interplay between the main characters here is wonderful. My only complaint is that I would have liked more time at sea, despite the title.
