Liora (chinquapin) | 11 comments I just finished Last Wool and Testament (A Haunted Yarn Shop Mystery, #1) by Molly MacRae and I didn't care for it too much. I struggled to finish it. I thought it had weak, tedious characters.

I am now reading Aunt Dimity Beats the Devil (An Aunt Dimity Mystery, #6) by Nancy Atherton

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Hello Liora! I'm Carolyn. Shame you disliked "Wool" because it's on my list. If not characters, is the story itself interesting? As for Nancy Atherton, I LOVE her! Have you read the all the previous in order? My reviews of her are 5 outstanding stars.

Liora (chinquapin) | 11 comments Carolyn, Last Wool and Testament had many shallow characters. I had a difficult time keeping them straight. Something would happen, and I would find myself flipping back to the beginning to figure out who that person was. The story and mystery were average, not bad, but not great either.

I love paranormal mysteries, but will probably wait and read some reviews on book 2 in this series before reading it myself. I know that the first book in a new series is often awkward.

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) So, did you read Nancy Atherton all the way up to #6, or pick that one up? With warning about weak characters, I might enjoy Holly McRae if there's a decent ghost in it.

I despise a clamour made about a ghost, if there's no paranormal after all. Or treatment of a spectre so nonchalent / humorous, we lack the awe that ought to be there.

Liora (chinquapin) | 11 comments I have read the Aunt Dimity series up to this one, and at least one later one out of order. For some reason, my library did not have this one, but I finally found it at a used book shop.

In Last Wool and Testament, there is an actual ghost, and its treatment is more humorous and silly than otherwise. Also, it does not seem to be tied to a place, as it moves from a house to the yarn shop.

Liora (chinquapin) | 11 comments I finished Aunt Dimity Beats the Devil by Nancy Atherton, and I thought it was excellent. Here is what I wrote:

Enjoyable mystery with some faux gothic elements like a haunted mansion, damsel in distress, and suspicious, creepy villagers. I am enjoying the Aunt Dimity series more and more as I continue reading them.

Liora (chinquapin) | 11 comments I finished Hearse and Buggy by Laura Bradford, and I thought it was an enjoyable debut to a new series set in Amish country. I am adding the sequel to my to-read list.

Liora (chinquapin) | 11 comments Just finished When the Cookie Crumbles and I loved it. This has become one of my favorite series. I liked the characters, the town, the plot, and the cookies.
