Okay, here's Arena 5! A few things before we start.

-You can you any tools you have to answer the questions at each level (there are 15) (including the tools on the internet)

-Message me, or any of the other mods your answer to move to the next level.

-Whether or not your character has the skills required to answer the question is up to you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are lowered down a shaft. For some reason, the tube remains closed as the drone of a dark voice announces the count. The clear walls of the tube do nothing, as it seems the surrounding area is pitch black.
"Three"
"Two"
"One"
The door springs open and you're free. You find yourself in a long, dark corridor with no doors out, except for the one your just left. At least, none that you can see.
When you reach the end of the corridor, a light suddenly flips on, and reveals a set of words inscripted on the wall.
"Tučňáci krmit v noci.
Co okres osm Specializujeme se na?
Máte přesně jednu minutu zvolit správnou odpověď tím, že stojí na správné platformě začíná v okamžiku, kdy světlo nad hlavou zapne.
Komora je utěsněna. Vyberte si moudře, nebo zemře na otravu oxidem uhličitým.
Může šance být někdy ve váš prospěch."
It's in a foreign language.
There are five platforms in front of you, each holding an item. From left to right they hold: stone and quarry hammer, a fish scale, a car wheel, a cow's tail, and a piece of fabric.
You have 45 seconds remaining.
Begin.
(For every answer you send incorrectly, you loose 15 seconds. You have a total of three tries)
When the count ended, Heloise reached out in the darkness carefully. She hesitantly stepped off the capsule and her hand met the wall. Behind her, the sound of the departing capsule her ears.
"Hello?" she whispered. This couldn't be it... could it? She shuddered and, with her hand against the smooth stone wall, she followed it to the end of the corridor.
A light flickered on above her. Staring at the wall in front of her, for a moment, she was terribly confused. The words made no sense. Suddenly she realized... it was in another language. Using the knowledge of language she'd snitched over the years, she eventually got the gist of the message, although, she still didn't understand everything it said.
She confidently strode over to the correct platform, greedily snitching the pretty fish scale. As she stood on the platform, it slowly rose. She bounced from foot to foot waiting for the dark, non-see through capsule to open.
((Individual I think))
Tamryn slowly made her way down the hallway, trailing her fingers along the wall. She was all alone in an enclosed space and there was nowhere to go but forward. When the light flickered on above her, she blinked rapidly and tried to adjust her vision to see in the dark. The message played and she looked around for something she could use to write it down. Nothing. She glanced back and forth at the items in front of her. She wished she was bilingual but she only recognized a few of the words. They weren't much to go on. She understood "district eight", "poisoning", and "one minute". Nothing else registered. As a child her teacher had traveled to many places, the Czech Republic being one of them. She didn't know what to do from there with the words she understood.
She remembered that district 8 was the textile industry, which suggested the cloth. The 'one minute' would mean she had a time limit. But what was with the poisoning? Would she be poisoned by the cloth, or the other options? Or would she be poisoned if she chose wrong or ran out of time? She walked towards the cloth, not really sure what she was supposed to do. If she did nothing, she would definitely die, so she took a chance. Something shifted underneath her feet when she neared it.
message 5: by Quemares (new)
Quemares Menares walked down the dark hallway. He could see normally in the darkness. When the lights flickered on, it blinded him for a few seconds. When he was able to see properly he saw the message. He read it and understood a few words. In the visits he paid his dad, he learned a few words of a significant amount of languages from the decesed souls. Those few words were enough to grab the meaning of the message. He walked to the platform with the fish scale.
Khemri stayed in the tube a little longer than necessary, hesitant to go out into the darkness. He gulped before stepping down and watching, sadly, as the tube left without him. His hand brushed against one wall, and he reached with his other arm, which touched another wall opposite of his arm. He shuddered. Small, dark, enclosed places. A distant call of "Hello?" reached his ears, but for the most part, everything was silent.
He slowly made his way down the hall. When he reached the end, a light flickered above him. He stared at the wall filled with almost inlegible scriblles.... Wait a moment. They weren't illegible. Khem laughed, the awkward sound filling the hollow space. It was a different language!
He'd never been so grateful for the dozens of books he'd read from his mother's list of recommended books. What a coincidence it was that they'd decide to make the language Czech of all things. He quickly translated the question and hopped onto the correct platform.
((@Amber, and everyone else with questions. Send me your answer, or which ever mod posted the question for the level (in this case it is me). He/she will give you the go-ahead to post your journey to the point that will take you to the next level. At this level, you are completely alone. You can use any of your resources to solve the problem, just make it realistic.
Oh, and to clarify, in the first line of the question, as of this moment, is completely irrelevant.))
Kent walked down the hallway with a globe of water lighting his way, before he came to the wall. He couldn't read the inscription at all. He rested it and choose a relic at random, paying that poseidon would guide him, but he was thrown back into the same room after the platform started to lift him up. He eliminated that choice, then reached for another random one, guessing correctly and moving on.
Jianna felt fear cloud her mind at the darkness. First the tube, now this. Her heart raced, and tears burned in her eyes as she felt the space around her grow denser. Smaller. "Tandie!" She cried, feeling utterly helpless. She needed him. When her own voice answered her, she discovered she'd have to fight to get to him. She crawled down the hall and shielded her eyes when the bright light came on. She couldn't read the description, so she grabbed a thing that she thought would help clear her eyes and was lifted up.
message 9: by Quemares (new)
Quemares Menares looked at the message again. He looked at the words that he did know and started to wonder. That sentence tells me to be here but that sentence tells me to be there, he thought, Which one am I going to obey. He thought for a moment and switched to the correct platform., hoping that he chose the right decision.
message 10: by Elle (new)
Elle  (irisapphire) | 6 comments Briana knew she could die at any moment. If Hera had taught her anything, it was to rely on what was right and not on her instincts. She read the questions again. Could it be possible that there were two answers?
Choose! her mind screamed. She remembered a couple of words from when she read a bit of Czech. She wished she knew what the other tributes had chosen but, for all she knew, they had picked wrong.
Then she made her decision; in a split second she had rushed into the hallway and grabbed the piece of fabric. Only one of the lines was a question-a question she intended to get right. If she died, then she died, right?
Danica | 220 comments Tandie coughed and stumbled into the almost-black void of a hallway. He tripped and face planted onto the cold, gravelly-floor and scraped his hands. Way to be graceful, Tandie. He scoffed at himself. He propped himself up on his elbow and thought about just staying there forever, probably starving himself to death. But no, Jianna needed him, right? Meh. More like she would be saving him, he smirked.
Tandie pushed himself off the groud and ran blindly until he reached a dead end. A light flickered overhead, with 5 platforms in front of him. Squinting, he made out the strange words inscribed on the walls. Using his knowledge, he guessed it must be some kind of language... But what language? Quickly scanning the script, he searched for any words that he could recognize. Tandie knew that his time was limited.
Frustrated he slammed his forehead on the wall, and in that quick red flash of pain, a blanket of fire burned in his mind then disappeared.
Wait, he thought, a blanket of fire! Quickly he stepped on the plateform in front of the fabric and smiled. Jianna, here I come.
((If your response to the first floor's riddle was okayed by the mod you sent it to via message, then this post is for you.))
The platform underneath your feet shifts, and suddenly you're being lifted into the air. You'd better be pretty balanced or hold on tight, because there aren't any walls or railings to stop you from falling. You don't know how long you're moving, but suddenly you're not.
The dry air around you encompasses the entire room. You can see the opposite side of the room through the dim lighting, but barely. There's also a huge, golden Cornucopia that blocks half of your vision, too. All along the outer wall of the room are holes where other tributes will stand if they guessed correctly, like you.
Weapons, food, and bags litter the floor. From what you can see, there are lifts inside the walls, connected to the room. They must lead to upper levels. Bu right now, you have the opportunity to grab some weapons, food, and maybe even pick up an ally. What are you going to do?
Jianna was still clinging to the platform when it stopped. She looked around and sighed a bit. As she looked around, her mind blanked. What had just happened? She didn't give the question much thought, though, because she saw Tandie. She named and forgot everything, rushing to him. She didn't notice Kent on the other side of the cornucopia with a sword, aimed to stab her.
Heloise jumped off the lift within seconds and grabbed everything her greedy hands could carry. An empty backpack reached her fingertips first, and, as she ran, she stuffed everything she came across in the bag. She picked up a smaller pack, a few daggers, and, luckily, came upon a pack of blow darts.
She quickly zipped the bag as she ran in a zig-zagging line to the other side of the large circular room. She found Menares along the way and tugged at his collar.
"Come with me," she said, keeping careful look at her surrounding, watching the bloodshed of tributes she'd never taken the time to learn the names of.
message 19: by Quemares (new)
Quemares Menares could only look around the room before Heloise tugged at his collar. He followed her, mainly because he needed an ally and because he took to long to go to the Cornucopia. If he tried to go now, he will probably have to fight his way in and out or send his shadow to get some stuff, both of which were very dangerous. "Where are we going?" He asked Heloise.
message 20: by Danica (last edited Jan 10, 2013 04:17PM) (new)
Danica | 220 comments Tandie's plateform lurched upward, causing him to stumble. He felt the pressure in his ears build up, due to the furious pace the platform moved up with. He felt a tiny burst of wind ruffle his ears, and Tandie allowed himself to relax and enjoy the short rest he'd get before fighting for his life. But the sudden stop of the moving platform caused him to unceremoniously dump his body on the ground in front of him. Groaning, his vision swam as he got up. That's the second time in less than 5 minutes, he grumbled to himself.
As he stared ahead, he saw a golden spot in his vision, squinting as his sight recovered, he realized with a start that it was the Cornucopia. Almost jumping with glee at the display of packs and goodies, he grinned. Spotting Jianna rushing towards him, Tandie smiled even wider. He started running forward, but soon he glimpsed the son of Poseidon, Kent, prepared to strike her down. Running forward, he pulled part of Jianna's shirt and yanked her to safety. But at the last minute his feet slipped on the metal floor, where he stumbled and landed on a pack. Unfortunately it was a hard pack, and Tandie had the wind knocked out of him right in front of the person he had wanted to impress with his heroic moves. Jianna.
Pushing himself up and trying to shake off the pain, he asked breathlessly, "Are you alright, Jianna?"
((You ready Dreams? ;D ))
message 21: by Danica (last edited Jan 10, 2013 04:16PM) (new)
Danica | 220 comments Tallulah's heart lurched as the platform started moving at a fast pace. Feeling sick, she crouched on the floor and put her head between her knees. Losing herself in the soft drone of the machine moving the platform, and the steady speed at which she was climbing at, Tallulah didn't notice when the movement stopped.
Peeking to see if she was alive, she smiled upon seeing the giant Cornucopia blocking half of her view. She started forward quickly at first, but then realized that there might be people ready to strike her down if she wasn't careful. Moving forward at a much slower pace and with more caution, Tallulah crouched in the darkness, waiting for an opening to grab a pack and maybe something else.
Finally, she glimpsed a possibly safe route that went right to a large pack with something glinting lying beside it. Tallulah ran, praying no one would see her, and grabbed the pack and metal thing lying next to it. Hefting the pack over her shoulder and gripping the hilt of the metal something, Tallulah pivoted to run towards a lift, but instead knocked into someone. Scrambling backwards, Tallulah looked at the tribute. It was Kent.
"Away from here!" Heloise told him. "This place isn't safe. And I may slightly like you enough that I'm not fond of you dying."
Heloise flew to the edges of the arena. The panels where the lifts had been were closed.
"Oh, gods," she whispered, her eyes turning to Menares, "How are we going to get out?!"
"Who's better for a job like that than the daughter of Hermes?" Heloise shot back. She flipped her hair playfully, and then leaned against the wall, causing the wall to slide upwards, revealing a small room on the other side, just large enough to fit three or four people.
Her eyes widened and she turned to Menares. "In... or out there?"
Jianna winced and saw Kent preparing to strike at them, and rolled out of the way, grabbing a bow and quiver. She pulled and arrow out and aimed it at Kent. "Go away, or I'll put this through her head." She threatened. Her voice as cold as the air at the top of Mount Everest.
Kent smirked, then held up his hands, sheathing the sword. "Fine. But I'll see you later." He promised, before trying to find his allies with his sword in hand and pack across his back. Just then, someone bumped into him, and he was ready to decapitate them when he glanced a recognizable face and stopped midway of pulling his sword out again. Letting out a breath, he shook his head. "You shouldn't do that. I would have killed you if I hadn't looked first." He told the girl. "Come on, we can't stand out here like sitting ducks." He let his sword relax and took her hand in his, leading Tallulah away.
"I'm fine. Are you?" Jianna asked Tandie, her voice reverting to the soft, kind voice that she'd used with him in the hallway when they'd met.
Elle  (irisapphire) | 6 comments Briana quickly and quietly leaped off the platform, dashing to the Cornucopia, trying to edge around the others. When she arrived, she immediately scooped up a backpack. She saw that some tributes had already noticed her-and that she was still weaponless. She ran in the direction of one of the farther hallways-and tripped. Cursing, she stood up as fast as she could. She realized she had tripped over a knife and immediately grabbed it. It was longer than the knife she usually used but it would do.
As she looked up, she noticed a big tribute coming over, holding a weapon. Cursing, she continued ran into the closest hallway and didn't stop.
