Post any of your questions about Islam that you are not sure if they are harram or yet here!

Salahuddin | 10 comments Is it harram to have friends that are not the same gender as you are?

Hmmm, that's a really good question. Are they Muslim friends?

message 4: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 14 comments It is haram. It is one thing to be friendly when someone is around you at work or school or something but it's different to actually go out and socialize with them as in a typical friendship. href="http://www.islamawareness.net/Marriag...
There is a hadith that says something to the effect of when a man and a woman are alone together the shaitan will be the third... or something like that meaning that it opens the door to possible lust and zina and all that stuff.

Shokran Cassandra. I have a question of my own:

Is it harram that I wait until after I come home from school at 2:30 to pray Dhur, which is around 12:30?

message 6: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 14 comments As long as you are praying it within the specified time period it shouldn't be a problem. For women it is usually recommended they pray at home even if it means delaying prayer a little because you won't have to worry about men's gaze while praying and therefor will not cause zina in their hearts or impure thoughts in their minds. For men it is recommended to pray as soon as possible but again it is acceptable as long as it is done before the following athan.

When I wear a hijab, is it OK if the scarf has patterns on it, like cheetah and floral. I heard from some people that it's harram, because it draws too much attention, but I'm not sure.

Thanks

One of my friends doesn't wear "floral patterns" on her hijab because her mom said it was 3ayb. That's why I'm asking. I'm not 100 percent sure.

message 10: by Taylor (new)

Taylor I actually asked that same question, and I was told it is not harram

Salih Kuzucu (salihkuzucu) | 2 comments Salam aleykoum,

The other people were saying haram may be because they were referring to this hadith : http://sunnah.com/bukhari/78/136
Of course, I am not a scholar to give a fatwa but the best way to follow concerning the pictures on the clothes even if they were worn under and cannot be seen, thus attract attention etc, is to avoid any representation of creatures. This is my humble opinion.
For better understanding better to refer a book.
Inchallah bi khayrina.

So, what you're saying is, it's OK as long as it's not an animal on the hijab?

message 15: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 14 comments As far as I understand it as long as your being modest it shouldn't matter. I don't think I'm going to draw more attention in a hijab that has leopard print than is solid black. Allah created us as a diverse community and as long as we meet the basic requirements of covering everything but the hands and face and our clothes are loose it's pretty much up to you. I'm pretty sure lime green solid colored hijab would stand out more than say, a floral print. The only thing it shouldn't have is words or images of things with souls. since you can have animal furs which obviously no longer have a soul simply representing the pattern of those skins is not representing the animal as a whole and thus imitating life. I think this article explains it more and goes along the same lines of my opinion.

Salih Kuzucu (salihkuzucu) | 2 comments It is not about drawing attention. How much attention would draw a curtain. It is about the representation of living creatures. But to be prudent i would not use any representation of any creatures be animal or flower.
About the colours and the type i could say it is about the culture you are living in. I was in Mauritania a few days ago and I have seen women covering their bodies according to Sharia but with local clothes. When I will get back to Turkey it is not the same clothes but clothes according to Sharia according to local culture. They are both ok inchallah.
This is my humble opinion. I wish I had more knowledge to share with you.
I am mostly ok with what Cassandra says. But I did not read something about the fur. I have no idea about it. i could not open the link -my connection fails- so no comment on what is written in it.
