Rogue Readers - So. OR discussion

So there have not been very many postings to this group. Lets start something current. Tell us about yourself and what are you reading? I will start... I am a full time mom of a almost 10year old girl, I work full time, I like to read (I am currently reading "The Fall" by Ryan Quinn). I like to make cards and scrapbook in my free time. I volunteer a lot around the valley. OK, who is next!!

Hi everyone.. my name is Whitney and I work as a caregiver and go to collage via online to obtain my degree in photography. I've been involved with photography for more than ten years. I am currently reading "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".

Hi—I am a former homeschool dad and sign-language interpreter. I also have authored a 7-title fantasy series for ages 8-88. (Seriously.) As a dyed-in-the-wool Oregonian, I have purposely incorporated settings from across this state into my books. They're a bit like the Chronicles of Narnia. The first title is: The King of the Trees.

Otherwise, I enjoy reading a variety of series, including the Lord of the Rings. Right now, though, I'm particularly intrigued by "Under the Dome," by Stephen King.

Hi! I read One Flew over the cuckoo's nest in High school, it was great. I read Under the Dome about a year ago and really liked it. Are you reading the book and watching the TV show at the same time?

Yes—I am watching the TV show and just downloaded the Kindle version of the book. I don't know if I'll have time to read the book until after the miniseries is over. It will be interesting to compare the two.

I am watching the show too and so far a lot is different but I won't give anything away.

The show seems to drag things out a bit.

I read that they might try to do a 2 season thing instead of mini series format, which means it would air next summer too. Not 100% sure though. The book is over 1000 pages so there's a lot of ground to cover.

Over 1000 pages??? I'd better get cracking, then. :)

I am only 15% into it but so far so good. I am getting to the point where I may only read in the daylight hours...lol. I will let you know how I like it.

Hi everyone. My name's Roy. I live in Shady Cove. I am on my third retirement and am reading to avoid withdrawal symptoms. I just finished "Key West Camouflage" by Wayne Gales. I'm going to start reading Fallen Out by Wayne Stinneti in the morning. I have two books on Kindle now. I wrote "Tsceminicum" with another author. "N2973 Animal" is all mine. "Tsceminicum" is crime drama. "N2973 Animal" is sport aviation. I write in several different genera. Is that a sign of an over active mind?

Hi Roy - I'm in Rogue River and on my second retirement. Writing in different genre is not unusualy as my non-fiction book One Rule was released least year and almost through with my action/adventure fiction novel.. Enjoy writing fiction even more.. Best regards to you and all those who posted.

Hi Kammie, it's good to hear from you. You'd be most welcome to come to my reading tomorrow at the Ashland Library, 2 p.m. (Nov. 1). My novel is called Saving Ben, about a fiftyish woman with multiple sclerosis and a full-time job who has to take custody of her grandson.

I think I may be the newest to this group. And loads of things have changed for me! Many blessings. I am temporarily leaving in Glendale, Arizona via Grants Pass, OR. My hubby got an invite to come here to enter the Meat cutters training for as he has worked for Safeway for 5 years.

Of course I DON'T LIKE THE Desert! But, got to support him with his choice. We will move back in a year. He also got a new position as he is done with the program. My book is selling well, and have had some pretty awesome things happen since it's release a year and half ago.

My objective was to share the experience and lessons learned working my way up the corporate ladder to become an international business, exec and later as a CEO. Hopefully it will help young people starting out or already in the work place. It could be very helpful in both personal and business relationships. More promo is definitely needed. Thanks.

Hi. I live in Medford with my dog and fiancé and I'm currently reading Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley. I love books about characters who overcome realistic challenges that we often face in real life.

They certainly faced some difficult challenges in Virginia where this is set. It is these challenges that in the end make one stronger and more capable of facing aggressive adversaries. Crying foul and rolling over isn't the answer. Standing fast and moving forward is the right road to take. Thanks for sharing.. I'll share some feedback on books I'm reading. I'm in the Rogue River area.

Hi Shereena. I live in Ashland with two labradors and am currently reading Margaret Atwood's "Maddaddam" trilogy. Her satire is chilling. I'll probably go back to somebody like Jodi Picoult next read as a balancer.

I'm now reading Marilynne Robinson's "Gilead," a strange tale written as one very long letter by an elderly (and sick) father to his six-year-old son. I'm also rewriting the beginning of my new novel, "Stalking Sarah," about a husband who stalks his wife on the internet.

Hello All. My computer crashed so I'm here using the library computer (thankfully), where I volunteer sometimes at Williams Library.
I've generally read a lot of mysteries and non-fiction, have lately been trying to expand reading genres, having a blast with "request hold", at our library.
Books I've loved/found enriching lately : Bringing Home Bubbe, an awesome book by a local author and storyteller Debra Zaslow, about her journey bringing her 103 yr old Grandmother home to live with her.

Anne Frank Diary, and writings related to the diary are teaching me a lot about humanity and experiences shared by my Dad's side family, who escaped from Frankfurt in WW2. A lot of shared perspectives by a wide range of authors. Especially book by Miep Gies, who hid A.F., Anne Frank Remembered. Also great, Anne Frank: The Biography, by Melissa Muller.

I've loved Jacqueline Winspear mysteries, for the historical aspects about WW1 in Britain, a time that my family lived through.

I'm researching memoir writing, to eventually publish a couple of books that my Mom wrote, someday.

I generally like to pick a genre of interest and do searches on it here, then searches in the library catalog.

I've been reading a lot of historical crime fiction, a lot of Brit stuff. Jacqueline Winspear I love. I just read a book by Daniel Silva, The English Spy, which held my attention and I thought was a good read. I'm going to go back and start from the beginning.

I've been also reading "non-fiction", about pollinators, native plants, attracting pollinators, a butterfly and moth guide by the Xerces Society.

I work a lot to branch out and try new things. I'm enjoying reading immensely. Happy Summer all! xoxox

This is Brenda in Ashland, sub-teacher and retired immigration attorney, mom and bookworm. Some of my favorite books are: Poisonwood Bible, Ciderhouse Rules, David Copperfield, Pride and Prejudice, Cat's Cradle and Dandelion Wine. I also love to read politics, history and biography. These days I don't read much poetry, but here is a new collection of poems of the Rumi genre from Hasan Sijzi. His poetry has never before been translated into English in book form and is done here by my daughter who was once a student at SOU after starting at Shasta College at age 14.

Just joined this thread and see not much going on. I am reading several books at present and writing a series of my own. Was hoping to connect with others who like to talk books, and might help me finish writing my own.
