It was truly amazing how one mother could do this to their child. By the end of the book, I almost felt sorry for the mom.
This is one of the best books I've read in the literary world. You can see my full review of this book under my name. You will NOT be disappointed. Daniel Black is one of my favorite authors. I'm almost done reading his The Sacred Place, and I can't wait to write my review of that book. This man makes you feel like you really know these people. I love the way he writes and pulls you in! Perfect Peace is one of my all-time favs, next to To Kill a Mocking Bird!
Hi Kimberly, I totally agree with you he has a way of making you feel as though you know his characters and you are right there beside them as you read. this was my first time reading Daniel Black, i will take your recommendation and read The Sacred Place. i have a question do you believe this book was referenced to him in any way? I have a bookclub here in boston and that question came up and of the 15 ladies that attended 12 said yes.
This was a very good read. I read all 3 books by Daniel Black last year by order of publication. By the time I got to Perfect Peace I was hooked. His story telling is so thought provoking and spiritual. It made you really think to what means would someone go to in order to be satisfied in life. How many people were hurt by what she did and did she pay the price for her selfishness. I have yet to read the Twelve Gates but Daniel Black is an excellent writer.
You know Yvette that is very strange that you asked that question because while I read it, for some odd reason, I got the feeling that it does somehow relate to him, not that it matters, but that's too funny that you'd ask that question having felt that somewhat myself. And I'll tell you something else, when you read The Sacred Place, that question may pop up again, and as soon as you read it, you'll know why I said that. Again, it doesn't take away from him at all, but I would be lying if I said I didn't think that too.

It was annd the crazy thing is i've read in the media an actual real life story of the same thing. Although i think it was a girl/boy. It super sad a mother would do this to her child. He suffered the most, the book was beautifully written.
TO kim - Yvette - I felt that this belong to someone he knew, I got lost in the book meaning that i was right in the story it somewhat gave me the same thoughts. Will start readeing Sacred Place this week.
Hi Trixie, I'm currently on page 220 of the sacred place. this book also captures you in the story. i can't wait to discuss the book.
This book had me in tears! This book grabbed me from beginning to end. The story line was so easy to follow and the whole story allowed me to actually imagine myself being each of the characters.
I really enjoyed this book. My friends and I read it together and we were enthralled with its unique story line. The characters were well developed and everything came together to make sense from the perspective of all the characters - those are the qualities that make a good story. I haven't read any of Daniel Black's other stories, but from reading this thread, I will be checking them out in the very near future.
Yes this book had my undivided attention! I have never encounterted a storyline like this. Daniel Black I must give you your kudos! Twelve Gates to the City is the sequel to They Tell Me of a Home.
Well written book. I felt so bad for Peace being raised as a girl. He suffered a lot for this decision his mother made. What an awful thing to do to your own child.
I enjoyed how the author really brought up the discussion of nature vs nurture. Perfect enjoyed the "games" he played with his best friend but also thought boys were cute as well. That could have been because he was bi, gay, or just conditioned to believe he should've been attracted to boys due to being raised as a girl.
I am compelled to write this commentary, but I feel that all has been said about the book Perfect Peace. Nevertheless I will express my sentiments. This was my first Daniel Black but will not be my last. The writing and character development is EXCELLENT! You are captured from page 1 to the very last page of the book and there are so many themes to unravel and discuss with others from this story. It is so true that our childhood joys and pains have the ability to wreak havoc on our adult lives.
