Kasey Well it kinda is like Victorian Era Gossip Girl. I enjoyed it. At first it kinda is boring but once the scandal pick ups I liked it a lot more. I love their parties

Erika Raven You should keep reading it. The beginning was very boring to me too, but later on, it got really good. It gets better around the third or four chapters. The first two are pretty hard to get through though.

Sharefah Ot gets soo much better once you get past the first chapters . I found it hard to get through them because of the amount of characters i was introduced to but once you get the main characters it's going to be amazing .

Angie It is late Victorian Era "Mean Girls". I enjoyed the books. They are easy to read and the first three really are good if you want something to read that is mindless and just a good fun mean girl romp. I just finished the fourth book--Splendor and was not as impressed. If you have been reading intense books such as City of Bones, these are good books to read in between.

Katie If you don't like that series you could always read her other series Bright Young Things. They're both really good series!

Morgan Both of her series are really good. Personally I think you should read it. I didn't really think it was boring but then again I love historical fiction. :-)

Lissa ive only read a couple of these books
i think they were great 4 star

Canuck0415 I had trouble getting through the first few chapters because there didn't seem to be a big plot development, but when you start finding out the character's secrets and all the scandals it gets much better. I read the first and second and they were both good. I still have the other two to read, but they are on my list! :)

Cara Not really. The series was great but not spectacular.

Annie I think it gets pretty dramatic after you get a little farther in and all of the relationships between characters just keep getting more tangled and messed up as you go. I think the books can be good even if you don't like historical fiction, although you may like them better if you do

Jem Lowe dull. boring. gave up on it.

Yes, it's pretty much Victorian Era Gossip Girl, but I still enjoyed it.

Roderick If you think yourself to be a serious historical fiction reader then I wouldn't suggest reading it. It seems dumbed-down, and lukewarm once you've read more descriptive, serious books. This, however was a book that propelled me into my love for historical fiction and Gilded Age New York. It was my first experience with that time period in a book. I still go back and read the series from time-to-time because sometimes I just want to read a book that I can get through quickly and enjoy. One that doesn't throw all these allegories, allusions, and underlying messages that make me have to...well "think."

Samantha The Escapist Two mentions of the Mortal Instruments in this discussion, weird. Well, now three. I don't understand how it even came up. Blasted insidious fandom :P

Anyway, this is slow to get going, so is her 1920s era series. But Godbersen puts a nice little garnish of wistfullness on the tone of her novels. No, as Roderick said it isn't quite a triumph of historical fiction, but it does make you nostalgic for a bygone era.

As far as I'm concerned, all of Godbersen's novels deliver exactly what is promised both on the cover and in the description. If it appealed to you enough to pick it up you'll probably like it if you stick it out. As others have said, a lot of the momentum doesn't pick up even in the first half of the first book but it goes in a few pretty fun directions as the series progresses.

I guess if you decide to give it a better try you just have to hope you develop a connection with 1 or 2 of the characters by the halfway point, if you do then you should be set to enjoy the rest.

bibliophile (Romance Addict) This was really really boring at first to me too. Although it got better after few chapters, I have to admit, the book wasn't amazing. I liked it but I didn't find it super exciting.

Alisa The book when I first started reading it it was boring but when you actually read a couple chapters everything makes sense and it's interesting.

Daisy97 Zajicek There is a huge plot! I really liked this book. It was like watching Downton Abbey! Although, the other books I didn't like as much...

hanpanparker Um... yes! I absolutely adore this book, but the others weren't as thrilling as this first one. I would recommend Vixen by Jillian Larkin. Vixen is MUCH better. I love Vixen so much and the series is even more intriguing. I hope you find what you want to read.

If you guys..."

trust me, it is totally worth it. The first chapter of almost every book is excritiatingly boring. Lol. That's just where the author introduces us to the setting and characters. From the 3rd or 4th chapter, the plot sets in. If you are not absorbed into this book by then, most probably this isn't your genre. I loved the book!

Leah I felt the exact same way while reading the first chapter of this book, but I fought through and let me tell you this whole series just blew my mind. I loved this series so much and I agree with what someone said before, it is just like watching Downton Abbey in your head.

Natasa Read first half and then gave up.

Akanksha It was boring at first but later on in the book it got better... Things started getting more interesting and yeah..

Marci Yeah, I think you'll have to define what "worth reading" means to you. Is this book going to change your life or inspire you to greatness? Nope. Not a chance, but it's a fun read if you get into it and are reeling from a book that did nothing but play with your emotions.
