Josh ... who's doing this? :)

message 2: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Connelly (maggieconnelly) Me! I haven't read as much as I would have liked to by this point but I'm working on it.

message 3: by Josh (new)

Josh Well that's why it's task, no?

I think it's a book that doesn't quite lead to us reading as much of it as we would like if finishing it is the goal.

Maggie Connelly (maggieconnelly) True. For me, it's just a way to encourage myself to read a book I might not otherwise choose to read. I think a sort of book club format is a fun way to do it because it adds a social aspect to a normally solitary activity and can add an element of competition while still being a pretty relaxed and leisurely pursuit.

Josh I completely agree.

I have never read this opus before, instead having it always sit on the I-should-read-that shelf.

Which means that, if nothing else, I can be proud of myself by the end.

message 6: by Colin (new)

Colin I still haven't had time to start, but I will soon! Just been so busy between work and getting back to school.

Sean Enos | 1 comments I started, but my Kindle says I'm not even 1% through it yet.

message 8: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sweet_sami) | 1 comments I'm finding that, as I read more, I'm getting used to the writing style and am enjoying it more. Still not a huge page turner, but I'm being able to read more than two pages at a time.

Josh I have been reading the spark notes summaries first. I find if I do that it helps me follow along a lot better.

message 10: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (elainesbooks) Greetings and salutations from CO. I'm glad to have found a Ulysses reading group. BTW this is the first group I've joined. It takes awhile to settle in to this amazing book but now I'm hooked, thrilled, and in awe. It is unlike anything I've read (with the exception of Finnegan's Wake - one of the few books I didn't finish reading) I'm sure I don't get a quarter of the (hidden to me) references inferences humor etc. but wowie, lil James Joyce is on a twister all his own. I wasn't going to use Cliffs, etc. but succumbed to using several sites w commentary, which is very helpful. I LOVE this book!!!

Maggie Connelly (maggieconnelly) Sorry it's taken me so long to reply to this but Josh, you win a Nerd Collective t-shirt for finishing the book! Email me at nerds@nerdcollective.net with your contact info so I can send it over.

Maggie Connelly (maggieconnelly) I've also added this month's book to the shelf, the book is the Godslayer by Dave Walsh.
