Justin (calcious) | 1 comments Hello, I just joined...but then a fear came over me: I don't actually know of a mystery book in a sci-fi setting! I'd like to know the defining books of the genre? I have read some science fiction...and I do consider myself a big fan...which is the reason I am interested in this group...

Sorry, for adding here, but the add book feature in bookshelf doesn't seem to work...

Oh, nice choice because Eric Frank Russell is a favorite of mine. I think it more of an us against them sort of story, but especially early on it’s a detective story trying to track down what's going on.

Jennifer Petkus (jenniferpetkus) | 4 comments My husband suggested Blade Runner, although I pointed out it’s not really a mystery in that you know who dunnit, although then I thought of Phillip K. Dick’s novel Do Android Dream of Electric Sheep and remembered it has Dick’s classic “everything you think you know is wrong” at the half way point, so an extra layer of mystery is added.

So I think if you combine the book and movie, it is sort of a mystery/police procedural, even if Deckard is more just an assassin than a detective, although he certainly follows clues to track down the replicants.

Jennifer Petkus (jenniferpetkus) | 4 comments H'm, I also seem to recall a Jerry Pournelle SF/mystery. Anyone recall that one? I'm sure I have it on my shelves somewhere, but some books are still in the storeroom.

Oh, wait, just remembered corpsicles. I'm actually thinking Larry Niven and the Gil Hamilton series.
