message 1: by Bella (new)

Bella Forrest (ashadeofvampire) | 33 comments The cover for my book needs changing ASAP. I have just had a new cover made to replace the old one. Could someone please help me change it?

I tried changing it myself, but even though I applied and was approved for librarian status, the site still tells me I don't have permission to do it.

Thanks in advance

-Bella

Soul (soulkeeper720) | 36 comments Can you provide me with new image? an url perhaps..?

so that i'll update it for you.. :)

message 3: by Soul (new)

Soul (soulkeeper720) | 36 comments oh wait, is it the same image that you have on your page for your profile pic..?

I guess i'll update it to that one, just let me know..

message 4: by Sandra (new) - added it

Sandra | 31553 comments You can't change the cover of your existing book. You need to create an alternate cover edition. You can then decide which book is your default one.

message 5: by Soul (new)

Soul (soulkeeper720) | 36 comments @Sandra : Can't we delete Existing cover and add new cover art?
- new on cover changing stuff.. :)

It already explain here : http://www.goodreads.com/librarian_ma....

Bella Forrest (ashadeofvampire) | 33 comments Thanks for your replies! you can download the new image from here: https://rapidshare.com/#!download|510...

If you create an alternative cover edition and we choose that as default - will all the comments and reviews automatically transfer over to that one?

message 8: by Soul (new)

Soul (soulkeeper720) | 36 comments Thanks ren!

So, to bella : as you can see, if you want to add new cover, please follow the guidelines mentioned in link :

http://www.goodreads.com/librarian_ma...

Thus it will be Alternate cover edition as Sandra said..

Once the editions are combined the reviews will appear on both editions. You then use the filter to see reviews per edition.

message 10: by Bella (new)

Bella Forrest (ashadeofvampire) | 33 comments The problem is I don't seem to be registered as a librarian even though I had applied. Would someone mind doing it for me?

I'd be really grateful.

Bella Forrest (ashadeofvampire) | 33 comments *Oh - and setting the new edition as default...

message 14: by Ren Puspita (new)

Ren Puspita (renpuspita) | 113 comments Bella, since you already Goodreads Author, you can add it yourself :). And of course set which edition you want to become primary edition.

Sorry, I can't open your link to get the cover :( (the office PC is blocked it)

message 16: by Soul (new)

Soul (soulkeeper720) | 36 comments okay, so I've uploaded the given image for Alternate Edition.

Is it correct, Bella?

Let us know.. :)

Thanks! - I think now the paperback needs to still be changed though. Because when i type "A Shade of Vampire" into the Goodreads search box - the old edition is the only one that shows up by default:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17...

message 18: by Soul (new)

Soul (soulkeeper720) | 36 comments for that you need to,

use Make Default feature, to use this feature, go to the edition you wish to set as the default, and click the "edit" link. On the edition's edit page there will be a link on the right side, about mid-way down the page and just before the link to refresh stats, to "Set this book as the primary edition for this work".

for now, Goodreads Authors (and Goodreads Employees) are the only people who can use this feature, and they can only do so for books on which they are the primary author.

so Make it primary, and i'll get your paperback book with alternate cover ready.

The new one is alternate cover edition. You can't change the already existing cover by delete it.

message 24: by Soul (last edited Jan 17, 2013 02:03AM) (new)

Soul (soulkeeper720) | 36 comments As stated earlier by Sandra,

"You can't change the cover of your existing book. You need to create an alternate cover edition. You can then decide which book is your default one."

you already have alternate edition set-up. Now all you need to do is,

"use Make Default feature" which is explained in message 18.. if you will..

message 27: by Bella (new)

Bella Forrest (ashadeofvampire) | 33 comments Yes - that's it. It's all fixed now. Thanks again everyone!

message 28: by Soul (new)

Soul (soulkeeper720) | 36 comments C.J. wrote: "So will the old cover version always be listed?

No way to permanently remove?"

Technically, said isbn/asin or whatever serial number denotes the book had the older cover at some point in time, and may be someone in readers have this book so it would be unwise to remove that edition completely.. rather keep both the editions..

but yes, if you choose to, the book can be removed completely. i.e. earlier version.

message 29: by Paula (last edited Jan 17, 2013 02:31AM) (new)

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments No we do NOT delete/remove books once published old cover or not.

This is a book cataloging site

Edit: Msg2 in this links provides info

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

message 30: by Soul (new)

Soul (soulkeeper720) | 36 comments C.J. wrote: "Not removal of actual book...just the old cover art.

Or are they tied together?"

They are being treated as two different versions/editions of the same book with same serial number with only difference of cover-art

message 31: by Soul (new)

Soul (soulkeeper720) | 36 comments C.J. wrote: "Interesting. Hopefully this will not confuse anyone...."

It's not at all confusing,

for instance, take the example of Harry Potter

as of this time, it has close to 256 editions of same book :)

so the Concept is "Same book just different Edition"

later..

C.J. This is the way it's done at GR. Anne of Green Gables has 488 different editions of the same book. I don't think your readers will have any problems differentiating from one edition to another, it doesn't take a new member long to learn. You just check the publishing info inside the edition you have and then match it up to the edition in the GR database or, if GR don't already have that edition, create a new one with the correct information straight from the book. Sometimes the publisher or author, like you, puts out a new cover for an old edition. It wouldn't be fair for one set of readers who have the book with cover art A to suddenly be unable to have the correct record of the book they own because cover art B has replaced it. That's why they handle ALL the different editions of the same book in this way.
