I just had a brainwave. One of the clues was bow right? And if John and Mary get married...and have a baby...the bow could be for that baby???
I know it sounds ridiculous but when you take all the facts and eliminate all impossibilities whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

I have had to change the name of this topic, Mary Russel is actually one of Sherlock's friends (!). John Watson's wife is Mary Morstan.
