Laura Pratt (nongermane) I'm a lover of books, stitching, and food.

When I have to be a grown up and put all the books, thread, and cheese away I am an English teacher for 9th grade. I'm always looking for another book and try to read across genres to help direct my 135 students.

I thank you all for the many upcoming points of view.

Welcome to the group Laura!!!

Laura Pratt (nongermane) Thanks! I'm pretty excited to talk to people about books over the age of 15. Not that those 15 years don't have their own special brand of wisdom...

I think your students would be as captivated by the story as we were. The story is morally complex with mostly teenage characters. Everyone I know that has read the story has loved it. It is the first book in a trilogy with the third book due out later this year.

Dee (austhokie) | 618 comments I totally second Unwind - it is one of those YA books that can be read and enjoyed by adults as well. I would put out a disclaimer about a particularly vivid chapter and you might need to warn kids in advance however

Laura Pratt (nongermane) okay- I just finished Unwind and cried the whole second half!! I was looking for a good utopian/dystopian novel for a unit next semester. amazing. so glad to have found fellow N. Shusterman fans.

Beth Welcome to the group, Laura! I recommend two great suspense novels that both blew me away (and I write mysteries!):

Defending Jacob
Gone Girl

Mark Likes | 19 comments Hello again, Laura. I was telling my son about the book "Calculating God" by Robert Sawyer. It occurred to me that while it might not fit the dystopian genre, it could really stimulate a good discussion amongst your students. Sawyer is exceptional at dealing with relationships and moral dilema.

Tanya Farrell | 3 comments Hi there,
I joined because i am forever telling other people what to read, id love a recommendation myself. Generally read chick lit and contemporary romance. Like the erotic side of things too, like FSoG, Bared to you, Sinners on tour etc

Beth Hi Tanya,
For romance and chick lit, I recommend a fellow Colorado author friend, Cindi Myers.
