The theme for March will be translated Sci-fi...by this I mean books originally written in a non-english language that were subsequently translated...

My nomination is Roadside Picnic by Arkady Strugatsky and his brother....

Allnominations will count and need not be seconded except to show your enthusiasm! We will have a run off poll of the winners

Tad (tottman) | 54 comments I'll nominate Virus: The Day of Resurrection by Sakyo Komatsu.

I'll also show my enthusiasm for Roadside Picnic which is sitting in my TBR pile. Or I guess resting in my TBR cloud? Not sure what the equivalent of a pile is for ebooks....

Planet of the Apes by Pierre Boulle

But how many of us have actually read the original.
I certainly haven't but I'd love a reason to give it a go.

Evilynn | 15 comments I'd like to nominated We by Yevgeny Zamyatin (apologies if it's been a featured read already, I didn't find it on the group bookshelf though). It's such a classic and yet I've never gotten around to reading it.

I'll nominate The Scar.

message 6: by J. Allen (new)

J. Allen Nelson (jallennelson) | 17 comments Many good choices-- I read Planet of the Apes as a youngster and it truly is different from the movies-- I'd love to read Rod Serling's original script for the movie which supposedly followed the book more closely? Otherwise, I suppose anything by Jules Verne or Stanislaw Lem, but for something different, how about The Lord of the Sands of Timeby Issui Ogawa?

Dylan (dyarch) The Crimson Labyrinth by Yusuke Kishi

message 10: by E A M Harris (new)

E A M Harris | 32 comments I would like to read 'The Investigation' by Stanislaw Lem. I read a couple of his books years ago and was impressed by his inventiveness. I've not read this one, but it promises to be an amalgam of two of my favourite genres, detective and sci-fi.
