Isn't is wonderful? I've read it twice already. Unfortunately I have not yet been able to see the movie, my student budget not being very movie-friendly, but the book was spectacular, and I've heard only good things about the movie.
Reading the book was everything how I imagined it would be from seeing the film, so I am sure when you get to see the film it will be everything you imagined it to be from reading the book!
I do have two key disappointments with the film. Two of the relationships in the book are altered greatly in the film. I won't disclose who. The movie is still good, but for me, it altered too much of the tension of the book so I was disappointed. I recommended this book to a friend, he wouldn't read it, till we watched the movie and he like it enough to crack open the book. We discussed the differences afterwards and agreed that the film should have been truer to the book.
the movie does not portray the characters as good as the book does. the book is a 10 and the movie is like a seven and a half...
Hi, (wave) I am new to the group and just looking for a place to pop in.My name is Jessica and I am a book addict, as well as a movie addict. When the two combine...I am in Heaven as long as the movie meets my expectations.
I, recently, read this book and saw the movie. While I liked the book, I did not love it. (Don't get me wrong, it was really good but wasn't something groundbreaking for me). I was intrigued to watch the movie when I found out the author wrote screenplay and book.
I liked the movie more. Yes, there were some alterations to relationships and events (some didn't even make it to the movie). But I felt a closer connection to the characters while watching the movie. I think one of the reasons for that was the music in the movie/book. Hearing those songs made me feel the moments. It was like I was experiencing being Invincible with Charlie, if you know what I mean. :)
I had a greater emotional reaction with the ending while watching the movie. The book, I felt just kind of breezed over it. I had to go back and re read some parts to make sure I grasped what the writer was getting it. The movie, however, approaches it with the cinematic montage, which made it easier (visually and mentally) to grasp what was going on in the character's head.
I think my love for this movie verses the book is the first time this has happened. I am usually very much a book is better kind of girl. I think this particular story lends itself well to being a visual story instead something that is read. (Just my opinion though). Nice to meet you guys and look forward to reading/watching with you guys. :)
When I first read the book (I was 11 at the time), I was like "mneeeeh, it's OK". But when they started filming the movie adaptation with Stephen Chbosky as the director and screenwriter, I HAD to read it again. AND NOW ITS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVES! The movie was awesome too.
I started reading the book first and loved it, so I really enjoyed the movie after that. It did not have all the details and emotions from the book, but I think the cast did a great job.
I LOVED the book and the movie. I'm waiting to get the movie from the library so I can watch it again. This was one of the few movies that I think matched the book. I thought the tone of the book and the relationship with Aunt Helen were spot on.
Pam wrote: "I LOVED the book and the movie. I'm waiting to get the movie from the library so I can watch it again. This was one of the few movies that I think matched the book. I thought the tone of the boo..."I agree 100%. Chbosky did a fantastic job writing both. I have to share this with people who have read the book...
My cousin (who is like a niece to me) turned 16 last Friday. She wanted to reinact the tunnel scene from the movie. My huband and I cranked up the radio with David Bowie's Hero song, found the tunnel in Nashville, and had a blast! One of the best memories I wil ever have. :)
This is my absolute favorite book of all time. Never have I been able to connect to a character as much as I did Charlie. The writing is just so beautiful and raw, and I could feel Charlie's emotions seeping through the pages as if they were my own. To make things even better, the movie was just as brilliant! The casting was impeccable, and I LOVE that Stephen got to write and direct it.

A film I've seen recently that inspired me to read the book is 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' by Stephen Chbosky.
It has swiftly become one of my favourite books, it is absolutely brilliant!
