As in "What we would like to read as a group" or "What we think is bomb-awesome and needs to be read by the whole world" or "other"? /:D
Oh, difficult.... I will have to mull over the former, but for the second category, might I suggest The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss? :)
Name of the Winds sounds like a good canadite! Alexis metioned Temeraire, any more votes for that one. Vlad Taltos by Steven Brust, Fallen Moon K.J. Taylor, Age of Fire E. E. Knight, Wolf by Jane Linkskold, Rain Wild by Robin Hobb, Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews, Book of the Order by Philippa Ballatine, Rakasura by Martha Wells, A Dragon's Tale by Paul Benthom, Firebringer by Meredith Ann Peirce, Collegium by Mercedes Lackey, Taken by Alan Dean Foster all have my vote as must reads! I know that is a lot but look them up and tell me what you think? As for books That I want to read and something that none of us have ever read, which is the whole point of the group, I would like to suggest the Silvered by Tanya Huff. Hopefully we can all agree on something. And please spread the word about this group, I want it to get big!!!
hmmm ones mentioned I've read (but will happily re-read) Name of the Wind, Lindskolds Wolf books, Wells, I'd even read KJ Taylor again, obviously Temeraire, but since there's a definate overlap between this group and the Temeraire one *cough cough* we might want to push that one back until there are a few more people who might not have read it multiple times already :)I've been meaning to read the Ballantine books, so I'm all for that too.
Kate Elliot's Crossroads series is really good, and I liked the first book of her Spiritwalker series, haven't had a chance to read book 2 yet.
Thieftaker by DB Jackson was recommended (forget by who) and looks really interesting, so that'll be another I-haven't-read-yet suggestion! :D
Haven't heard of the silvered before, but I'd be up for trying it :)
And wow...haven't read James Herriot in....gosh 22? 25 years? I feel old now :P There was a miniseries that followed the books, wasn't there? I think I remember one, but it's been so long, I could be thinking of something else.
aha! a movie! 1975 :P Which explains why it's instantly connected in my mind to Born Free - the series was also from 74-75. Now there's an old classic you guys might not have read - Haven't thought about either of those in a long time!
Thanks Sanasai, I will add your vote! I didnt realize that you had read all those before! But yes, you are right, we will stay away from Vlad Taltos and Temeraire for now. I am totally down for Crossroads, I havent read that one yet! Philippa Ballentine would be a good choice for the group. Let me know what you think of the Silvered?
Just realized I forgot to add that yes, NOTW is a fine pick too, and I checked out the sample chapter for Silvered, it looks interesting :) Really most of the suggestions I'm ok with :D
Hello everyone, I just signed up with Goodreads and thought it would be cool to join a SFF bookclub. Does anyone mind reading older fantasy? I was thinking of suggesting the Chronicles Of Amber by Roger Zelazny. I've read the First Chronicles but recently I was thinking of digging into the Second Chronicles.
I've already read NOTW, but it was excellent, so I wouldn't be against re-reading it. I also already have a copy of the first Vlad Taltos novel, but haven't read that, so I'd be excited to read that as well. Actually, I'd be down with most stuff, but I'm sure my wife would prefer if I read something I already have instead of buying more books(our bookshelves are already overflowing)!
Other amazing stuff that hasn't been mentioned yet (again, older fantasy), the Fafhrd And The Grey Mouser Saga by Fritz Leiber, and the Dying Earth stories by Jack Vance. These are both top-notch yet lesser-known series, and in my opinion, every fantasy lover should give them a try.
I loved the Amber books! Excellent suggestion :) Been re-reading some of Asimov lately too, since we're talking classics. I've always been a huge fan of Feist too, some of those I wouldn't even have to re-read to discuss, (although I probably would anyway) I've been through them so many times.
Since we are talking about classics how about Dragon Prince, Acorna: The Unicorn Girl, A Spell for Chameleon, Powers That Be, The Red Wyvern, Dragonsbane, The Clan of the Cave Bear, The Dragonriders of Pern, Split Infinity, Phylogenesis, Fire Bringer, Her Majesty's Wizard, The Dragon and the George, Little Fuzzy, On Basilisk Station, The Black Gryphon, Dragons of Autumn Twilight, Assassin's Apprentice, Dragonsong, The Golden Compass, Blue Moon Rising, Arrows of the Queen, Into the Land of the Unicorns, Dealing with Dragons, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, I, Robot, Tarzan of the Apes, A Game of Thrones, Dragonheart, Green Rider, The Heavenly Horse From The Outermost West, Dragonworld, A Princess of Mars, The Water Horse, Watership Down. I defined classic here to be everything before the year 2000. What do you think?
Anyway, these are books that I never got the to finish and would be willing to go back to them.

Anyway, I would like to have made a decision for the Feb. We will read one book a month because I know that you guys are busy and will want to read something other than what we all agreed on. So please vote! Just write your top two picks and then I will add it all together. Thanks!
I'd like to read:1.I, Robot by Isaac Asimov
2.The Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
(Although I was sorely tempted to put down Jhereg by Steven Brust as my #2, but I saw above that you're going to give that a miss. Curses! Oh well, just have to read it on my own time, I suppose.)
Since Silvered is so new I'll pass on voting for it for february, didn't realize at first it's not even in paperback yet :) instead i'll go with Spirit Gate
or The Name of the Wind
Name of the Wind is the winner!!!
Alright guys, while reading this this month think of what you want to read in March!
Happy reading!

Hi, I'm Tusa ^^. I'm quite new to GoodReads.com and this group. I am having a bit of trouble finding 'The Name of the Wind' at my school, though. Would it be in a regular library? Or is it a book that I should purchase?
I also wanted to make a suggestion for March: The Chronicles of Chrestomanci. I quite liked the description and figurative language I found in here, and it did feel like I was reading from a boy's point of view (the main characters are little boys). There are about three volumes to the series right now :).

I got it from my local library, if your branch doesn't have it, ask about an inter-library loan, they'll find a copy somewhere nearby. :)
If it's a school library, it's likely that they do not do inter-library loans. However, it might be found at a city library, or be loaned from another library from that system.
Welcome Tusa!!!! Hope you are enjoying goodreads! Have fun! I will look up the Chronicles of Chrestomanci. Good luck finding Name of the Wind, the other Readers are right.
So if there is anything you guys want to add the group just suggest it! This group needs more going on!
Jhereg is a really good suggestion and it seems like one you really want to read Bryan. You have mentioned it twice now!
I'm basically just trying to choose stuff sitting on my bookshelf waiting for me to read it. I have a lot of stuff on my shelf that looks really good. Viriconium by M. John Harrison, The Borribles by Michael de Larrabeiti, 11/22/63 by Stephen King, Only Forward by Michael Marshall Smith, Fevre Dream by George R.R. Martin, Lord Of Light by Roger Zelazny, Gloriana, Or The Unfulfill'd Queen by Michael Moorcock...the list goes on.I'd read any of this stuff, or whatever you guys choose.
I know I'd like to read Jhereg! Other suggestions of mine are Geist by Phillippa Ballentine (Before you say anything, Cole, I know you've already read it, but meh!) and Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.
Sorry, was busy with with midterms and stuff. Well considering that no one really voted for this mouth ( worried now!) we should the Vlad Taltos series. Question is should we do chronological or publishing order?
I'd like to point out at this juncture that Alexis, Stephanie, and I voted, so it's not true that no one voted.Regarding the Vlad Taltos series, I would prefer to read them in published order, as I already have the first three if we end up doing it that way, but...I suppose I could be convinced to buy more books if the group decides to read them chronologically! What does everyone else think?

Oh, sorry. I was not discounting those of you that did vote. I was just commenting on the votes by members ratio is all.
Thank you for voting!

Unless anyone wants us to read differently, I am going to assume we are going to read publishing. Have fun! I love this series and I personally guarantee you will to. I am just that confident!
So does that mean we're still starting with Jhereg? I am entirely unfamiliar with either order, published or chronological.
