If you read a book you think is worth giving a shout out then post it here and let us all have a look :)

Sohaib | 6884 comments The best book that I read would be undoubtedly "How to kill a mocking bird" by Harper Lee. The finesse with which it was written, the maturity of characters and the smoothness with which the plot develops was just amazing.

The second book is a series not a book, "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy by J. R. R. Tolkiens. It is the epitome of fiction. The level of detail of the characters and the environment do actually takes you to the Middle Earth for an experience of a lifetime.

I would recomend reading the hunger game series. It really is a captivating book.

message 4: by Owaiz (last edited Jan 22, 2013 06:12AM) (new)

Owaiz Okay Muhammad, I'm definitely getting LOTR. And the Hobbit.

@Sairah: I second that. I can't express my love for Hunger Games in words. When I got my copy of The Hunger Games, I read the first page like 5 times. I love how it is written. Doesn't get boring at any instant, and you can't put the book down.

And I would recommend reading Wuthering Heights. The book is pretty boring all the way. Somewhere in the middle the story gets interesting but that'd hardly be 5%. But once you finish, you'll definitely be in love with this masterpiece.

message 5: by Sohaib (new)

Sohaib | 6884 comments @Owaiz You are right but Wuthering heights is a bit too sad for my taste. For me a slow moving masterpiece would be The Alchemist. Its so slow moving that even I, who has read 200 books of Star wars series, was skimming through the first half part but after that first half part, namely The dream of Hawks, well thats from where I have read it over 50 times by now and enjoyed it everytime

message 6: by Sohaib (new)

Sohaib | 6884 comments @Sairah I will be starting Hunger games but am currently reading my course books and The best of me by Nicholas Sparks. DOnt worry its the next in my list because of you people :P

a farewell to the arms is also a very nice book. and all the maintioned books above are really great in there own genre.

message 8: by Sohaib (new)

Sohaib | 6884 comments @Owaiz if you have time do read Veronice decides to die by Poelho Coelho. Its a wonderful book. Gives you a big perspective on the beauty of life. Do tell your views afterwards :)

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

@owaiz: I'm not sure about wuthering heights. I read it at school but even then I never finished. Although I love heathcliff. He just seems so misunderstood to me.

message 10: by Shumaila (new)

Shumaila | 125 comments I really love "Harry potter series"
"Animal farm" is also very interesting and a short one as well.
In urdu, i would recomend "Awaz e dost" by mukhtar masood, its really thoughtprovoking.
i have not read Hunger games, though i am planing to, so cant say anything about it but other above mentioned books like "wuthering heights" "The lord of the ring series" and "Alchemist" are no doubt masterpieces in their own styles.

Shumaila | 125 comments @sohaib oh it is such a beautiful book. Veronica's character is really interesting, some time one can easily relate oneself with her:P

message 13: by Sohaib (new)

Sohaib | 6884 comments @Shumaila heyyyyy one should be very careful with whom one relates oneself to or should we be calling 15??:P

Sohaib | 6884 comments Has anyone read The Silmarillion yet?? And is anyone has I would like to hear comments about it!

message 18: by Owaiz (new)

Owaiz SPOILERS - Wuthering Heights

@Sohaib: I watched this trailer of Wuthering Heights which said "A love so cruel it destroyed everything it touched". I think it's a beautiful and cruel love story. You know how we can never imagine living without someone we love more than ourselves. Well, we really can't imagine. But I think it will probably be like Heathcliff's.

I've read Veronika Decides to Die. I think its ratings are low because it is not for everyone. If someone hasn't had depression or panic attacks etc, they can't understand. I mean what's the big deal if your heart starts pounding? It happens if you go for a run, no big deal. At least that's how people who haven't had one think. And the ones who know how it is, they understand Veronika Decides to Die. It's pretty fantastic. And, like he said in the book, it's okay to be a little crazy.

message 19: by Owaiz (new)

Owaiz @Sairah: Did you read the abridged version?

message 20: by Sohaib (new)

Sohaib | 6884 comments @Hamayun I have already read The Silmarillion but didnt find it nearing the standard set by The Hobbit and LOTR... Thought to ask what others thought about it..

@Owaiz I feel you and I feel Heathcliff but it was like too much sadness and irony for me :P:(

Absolutely agree with you about Veronica... Only those who have been to thither and back know what it is... Empathy's the key to the code of the book :P

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't know. I just read whatever the teacher gave :p

message 22: by Sohaib (new)

Sohaib | 6884 comments @SAirah Lolz :P

message 23: by Owaiz (new)

Owaiz @Sohaib: We should talk sometime. or hangout.

And now that I think about it, I think Heathcliff was lucky he had the luxure of destroying others for his loss. Not everyone gets to do that.

message 24: by Owaiz (new)

Owaiz @Sairah: I think they give you the abridged version in school. Probably excluded some cruelty or something. Unabridged is good. Not in parts but as a whole.

message 25: by Sohaib (new)

Sohaib | 6884 comments @Owaiz Yup :)

They do give the bridged version of novels and edit the cruelties because its aversive to the good psychological development of the children :P

message 26: by Sohaib (new)

Sohaib | 6884 comments Infact I have a better idea... Why dont all the members who are in Islamabad meet someday at tea?

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

@:Owaiz Oh no then it was the actual one with all the evil stuff in I think since the other book we read had lots of violence and swearing

@Shohaib. Not fair =\

message 28: by Owaiz (new)

Owaiz Sohaib wrote: "Infact I have a better idea... Why dont all the members who are in Islamabad meet someday at tea?"

Sounds good.

@Saira: Did you read about Heathcliff beating someone too? Or where someone planned to shoot him and all?

message 29: by Sohaib (new)

Sohaib | 6884 comments @Sairah What else can I do?? We cant come your town :(.....

If we get the meetings started than when you come to Islamabad we'll set up a special meeting just for you!! Fair now?? :)

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)
