I think that it was a mixture of both. It was excellent because it did give a closure to our favorite boy wizard and his friends, but devastating because it was the end of something important. I wish that J.K. Rowling would write another book series about Harry's kids. It would be something else for us to fall in love with. I also think it would tie up the loose ends that we see that happens with Harry's kids. Will Albus be in Slytherin? What happens to all of the rest of the teachers? Did they retire? Is Hagrid still obtaining dangerous beasts? WE DON'T KNOW!!! That's why it was excellent and devastating.
I aree with Canread, also what happened to George did he get married? did he continue the shop without Fred?
I agree but disagree. I agree with the whole closure thing, but at the same time I thing the fact that J.K. Rowling leaves a lot of details for the readers' imaginations to decide she is adding that last touch of magic to a timeless series.
And yes Kathy you are right as well she lets you decide what you want to happen in your own way and altogether the series was great :)
Fiona-I agree with you in some parts, yeah, I wish Harry had married someone more important. I don't ship harmony (harry and hermione) but yeah. I wish we knew what happened to everyone else though-like did Lavender turn into a werewolf? Did Hagrid marry the headmistress of beauxbatons? Maybe sirius never died (what I always hope)? What happened to cho chang, neville and luna? (Yes, neville became a professor but what else?) I see that she probably wanted to leave an open ending, so I'm just saying my feelings. :)
I thought the epilogue was very good, my only complaint being I wish we knew what jobs they had gotten and whatnot. And in regards to Kennedy's question, yes, George got married. He married Angelina and had two children, one of which he named Fred.I'm not sure if you are all aware, but JK released a family tree for the Weasley's, saying who they all married and what children they had. It also includes Luna I believe.
I think the Epilogue was great because it had the right touch of mysterious in it, like people have already said, because things lay unfinished at the end, which I love. The epilogue was really sweet, I liked reading it, but I hated reading it at the same time because all the while I forcing myself to believe my favourite series really was...over. I don't agree with what people said about Harry should be marrying someone more important. I don't ship Harmony or whatever that ship is. I like Hinny. I think Harry married someone not too important, but important enough, and until the last few books, it was totally unexpected since Harry didn't like her and they didn't do obvious love bickering like Hermione :P
