Happy to have you join us.

I don't think you would have to have read it, as it is promoted as a spin off series of it's own. There will probably be a lot of background info you won't know if you haven't read the first few of the Night Huntress series, though.
I enjoyed it when I borrowed it from the library last month. I look forward to discussing it with everyone.

The main characters for this book is Spade and Denise. You really don't have to read the Night Huntress series to read this one. I would recommend the Night Huntress series. Love Cat and Bones.

Has everyone started? I'm not entirely sure I like Denise. As of yet in the book she does not have much personality; she's kind of flat. I hope that gets better. Spade is okay. I like that we are getting more of his history. Except, what is it in books like this (PNR) where the guys always have long or shoulder-length hair? Is it just a vampire thing?
What do you think of the whole demon looking for a relative thing? Personally I think at this point the story is a bit weak, though we are only seven chapters in so we have not had a whole lot of time for it to develop yet. Though, I would have liked something more to happen with the demon when he first approached Denise, I guess, and maybe a little more emotion or something from her afterwards – I mean, come on. She was just attacked by a demon and then just calmly calls around looking for help? I'm not sure I would have been that calm.
I am glad we read the other Night Huntress books first - I think we would have been missing too much background otherwise since the characters are all the same in both series and all those connections are already set in place. This book is different than Once Burned where Vlad was the only connecting factor, which I had read without reading NH first.

Hi guys! I've been having an awful month a a super terrible today. I just wanted to escape into a book but I can't even get my mind to stat put:( the books in the night huntress series are great, I hope everyone new to the group enjoys reading them as much as I do:) especially with this group, they're some great reading buds! Maybe I'll drop in for a comment or two, if not enjoy!-Clare Bear
Denise is too whiny for my taste. Sheri, I agree with you about the demon experience. Maybe it was her way of developing a back bone. She couldn't allow her family to suffer so she took it all on herself. Spade's personality and background come to the surface in this one. I like that.
Thank you, Clare. We have misssed you. Sorry your month has been so awful. I hope it gets better soon. We need our CLare Bear!!
So far I'm not linking this, I'm only 4 chapters in but it's not looking well. I'm trying to give Denise a chance, I see that its being attributed to PTSD so thats something I don't want to get in to because I'm a guy who doesn't believe in it. Shit happens, move on, and thats all to it. But people deal with stuff differenlty.Denise is flat and boring at the moment, Spade isn't much better, but as I said i'm not that far in just yet.(Well, that sounds a bit dirty)
Up tp chapter 13 or so now, and I realised that this is very similar in a way to Patricia Briggs Alpha and Omega series with Charles and Anna, ya know ho he's helping her cope with her PTSD and such. Yeah thats the book. Ha I can remember stuff!!!!But yea Leigh you are right, it is getting better, I just wonder how the demon is going to be later on, he seems more of a trickster than a powerful demon to me.
I have read up to chapter 23. I will not give anything anyway. Shahbaz, I agree with you about the similarities to the Alpha and Omega series. I love that series!
I'm up to 29...sorry, I forgot to stop reading :) Denise does get better. I really like Spade - (view spoiler) And Cat and Bones show up later.
I haven't read A&O yet, though I've been meaning to. Mercy Thompson is one of my favorites.

I guess I'm not the only one who read over. I am happy that Denise stopped the whining and her backbone stiffened. I like Spade's chivalry which is not necessarily a common trait in paranormal romances.
I would be happy to re-read the A&O series.

I don't usually get the chance to read over! No classes this week, so I have a bit of extra time. They start up again Monday. One of my classes is History of the English Language. I'm not really looking forward to that one. It sounds...not fun. Our textbook is an Oxford English Dictionary!!

WOW! I won't be looking forward to that either.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I really like having Spade's POV in this book, too. I know not everyone is a fan of multiple POVs, but I am when it's done well. If we only had Denise in this one I don't think it would have the same effect. She wouldn't have had much more to talk, or think, about, so we probably would have just gotten more of her insecurities to fill that blank space.
Spoiler for chapter 28 - (view spoiler)

I liked Spade's POV, too. That is something different in this book than her Night Huntress series. I really liked the way it ended.
OK, so I read ahead and was feeling bad about it, but I guess I shouldn't have. I am at about 22. I don't mind Spade and I don't mind Denise, but I don't really /care/ either. It's a quick read, and romance is what it is, but Giselda and Randy are taking up a lot of space. And I get the whole bonding over guilt/finding each other thing. I think I'm still just bitter about how Frost *forced* that in the first place.Also. PTSD is real and it is crippling. And it's not really something you can just will yourself over.
Clare- Missyou! Hope you're doing alright.
I really enjoyed the book (read it in December). I agree Alyssia. PTSD sure is real. If only willing yourself over it would work but it doesn't.
Just finished and I'm happy to say that I'm happy with how things developed. (view spoiler)Spade is an OK character, still not quite sure how I feel about this spin off yet. Maybe with the next book I will know how I feel about it.
My vote is for either
or
.
I really hope Frost writes a book about Ian. Although he has proved his loyalty, he seems like such an a$$, I am curious as to what kind of female Frost could imagine up to tame him.

Sheri, I agree I want to see Ian with a woman that can tame his wilder side. LOL
I would love to read
. I need to know what happens next.

I still have not read the first 2 books of that series, I know i'm slacking lol. Either book, whichever you guys decide
Leigh, we could go ahead and to the next NH book together and you and I start Blameless at the end of the week - I don't think Alyssia or Clare have read Changeless yet either.
