(Darcy proposes again and Elizabeth accepts! Everyone is pleased, except Lady Catherine!)

I couldn't agree more!!

Nicole(thereadingrebel) (thereadingrebel) | 158 comments I LOVE a happy ending and this has one.

I was happy that at least Mr.Bennet never let Kitty go see Lydia alone. At least he learned something.I liked that Kitty got to spend more time with her older sisters but wish that Mary had been invited too and not left out.It always seems as if Mary is left out even at the end.I really like Mary over Kitty and of course Lydia and even sometimes Jane.

I am glad Mr Bennet learnt as well! And I think Kitty will end up well :) as for Mary, I reckon it might actually be nice for her to be away from her sisters, as she was always compared to them... So, maybe she will like it, though it might have been nice for her to visit her sisters sometime :) I hope both Mary and Kitty end up well - Lydia deserves it and well, Lizzy and Jane definitely ended up well!! ;)

message 5: by Julie (new)

Julie I like that Mr. Bennet also would show up at Pemberley without notice! :)

Yes!! So do I!! It's so sweet. Good for him to get out and about as well :) he really does like his Lizzy and I reckon he would get on well with Darcy :)

Marren | 764 comments Am I the only one who wondered/wondering why Wickham is Mr. Bennet's favourite son- in- law? Oh please say, there is sarcasm somewhere in that line. Wickham?! Well he sure did charm him...hmph!

message 8: by Sophie, Your Lovely Moderator (new)

Sophie | 2624 comments Mod
No no, he was definitely being sarcastic!! I reckon Darcy is his favourite, cause he makes his Lizzy happy :) he is being sarcastic about Wickham but Maybe a little merely because he took Lydia off his hands ;)

Marren | 764 comments *Sigh of relief* I hope so it is sarcasm.

I too think it was sarcastic.I bet Darcy will be his favorite like Soph.

It is. It must be. Does Mr Bennet call him 'the most worthless men in all of England' sometime? (That may just be in an adaptation.... )

Nicole(thereadingrebel) (thereadingrebel) | 158 comments I think it was only in the 1995 movie. But he didn't even want to see Wickham or Lydia or allow them into his house(that is in the book)Lizzy and Jane had to talk him into it.

Sophie | 2624 comments Mod
Yup it is isn't it... Well it still works anyway ;) but your example is better! He did not want them in the house of neighbourhood and had to be persuaded into it so really dislikes him and their behaviour!!

message 14: by Louise Sparrow (new)

Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 262 comments It was definitely sarcasm, he was comparing Wickham to Mr Collins several times, 'I defy even Sir William Lucas to find such a son-in-law!' and he does definitely refer to him as one of the most worthless men in England.

It's always a pleasure reading P&P and I always want more at the end but I haven't found anything to really do it justice. I did find a mention on the Austenprose site about something her nephew wrote after Jane Austen died though, where he said that she'd told them little bits about the characters, including how Mary and Kitty ended up, I thought that was nice.

He really doesn't like Wickham or Collins!!

I always want more, but the chapter when they are engaged and married etc I love reading because they are always cut out/shortened a lot in the adaptations so when I reread the book again and get to those chapters it is lovely :) The only thing i have read doing it justice is Mr Darcy's Diary by Amanda Grange. It mostly happens during the time of the original novel but there are some great chapters afterwards where we see some of their married life and see some characters meeting others (Mrs Bennet and Lady Catherine for example; entertaining!) Many sequels are made far too sexual unfortunatley...

I know what you mean about sequels and other JA fiction have too much sex in it.I read Bespelling Jane Austenlast year and I think they spent more time on sex then on the stories.*sigh*I was really looking forward to that book too.I only gave it 2 stars.

I have even seen classics with sex scenes added.Pride and Prejudice: The Wild and Wanton EditionI can't believe they would go this far and add them to the orginal novel.I am stunned that anyone would do this to a classic novel. They couldn't have been more disrespectful if they had burned it.

sorry to get so far off topic

Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 262 comments I followed that link... wow, even the blurb is offensive. 'every Austen fan's dream come true'? I think not. It sounds like another money making scheme like the Zombie one, and going by the reviews, it's as badly written as it sounds.

I'm wondering if there's a 'Books I never want to read' list to add it to.

I don't mind stories with sex scenes in them but unfortunately a lot of books try to replace a plot with it, and when you do that to a classic, you're really missing the point.

Having said that, if it was not the whole point of the publication, but added in a manner that suggested a reason behind it, then I could accept it, for instance Victoria Connelly's modern adaptations and Colette Saucier's vampire version... ok there's no real reason for a graphic sex scene but I can live with them because they are in keeping with the style of that novel and are well enough written not to make it tacky.

I am not saying there can't be great books with well written sex scenes and great plots.I am just saying Bespelling Jane Austen was 4 stories and 3 of the 4 had a sex scene(I think one of them had 2)and each story wasn't very long.

Plus I don't like it when people add on or add things to other people's books.I don't mind people trying to finish authors half-written novels after they are died but if it's already written I don't think you should be adding stuff to the orgainal book.It is disrespectful IMO.

I'm with Nicole! Add to the original - never!! And not sex scenes!! Please!!
It always gets way off topic and makes it just bad... There should be a books I never want to read list!!
Some books can have a sex scene (so long as no stupid descriptions) and remain a great read. One book I read there was a sex scene (well kissing before and then return the next leonine) but it was in wed lock and it was important to the story (which sounds weird but in a good way) the sequels etc become too focused on it... Such a shame! And seriously, why add to a classic!! It's a classic!! Adding to original? No!!

Just read the blurb!! OFFENSIVE!! Wish I hadn't!! Will not even quite the first and last line of paragraph three of the blurb!! :O that is awful!!

message 21: by Louise Sparrow (new)

Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 262 comments Oh I totally agree with you both about adding things to the original novel... I kind of feel that way about the tv adaptations sometimes.

I meant that I find it ok if it's re-imagined in some way. Unfortunately, Pride and Prejudice and the Zombies is little more than the original with a few badly written lines added (including some very off innuendo). There's no excuse for that.

Where as Pulse and Prejudice is re-written from Darcy's perspective (as a vampire) so I can forgive the sex scenes, it's not appropriate for P&P but it was appropriate to a vampire novel. If you see what I mean?

I understand for that kinda thing, assuming its not the original. But generally, i prefer the clean romances or sequels :)
