Flat-Out Love discussion

I know Finn isn't real, but I REALLY wanted him to be. Matt was awesome, too.

It's really hard to choose, but in a choice between Finn and Matt, I like Matt better.

I couldnt agree more! during the whole book I knew there was something fishy about Finn but I still thought he was real...I found myself rooting for Matt the whole time! He just seemed so charming, in a nerdy way of course! lol

I pretty much figured it out in the beginning about Finn. But I think it was easy to fall in love with Matty's words and not with Finn's good looks.

Matt ! I had a crush on him since the first meeting with Julia !

I love Matt. Not only is he smart and witty, but who goes so out of their way to make their little sister feel better? Seriously sweet! You can't help loving a sweetheart.

I knew they were the same person from the beginning and really enjoyed both parts. But I have to say I was kind of upset that she kept wanting Finn when Matt is wonderful and was right there for her!

Wow, you figured it out?! I was so surprised I found out the Matt was Finn. The author made it such a good mystery that I didn't suspect that the story would twist in such a way.

What tipped me off was when Matty and his mom argued and Julie overheard. Although they never said what about, I thought it as odd. Also when Matty would start to tell her about things and then stop.

But the biggest clue for me was when Julie spoke with her professor and he said that Celeste may be acting "odd" due to a trauma.

Matty had me at Nietzsche! But under the tree solidified it for me.

MATTY!! I knew something was fishy in the beginning but by the middle of the book I figured it out but I still really enjoyed it and just fell in love with how nerdy Matt was!

Absolutely Matt! I too figured out the twist early on but it made me love Matt even more. I really liked all of the characters in this book and even though I guessed the twist early on, I didn't feel like it made me enjoy the book any less.

Oh my,I guess it took me longer to figur out that Finn was dead -but how he got described he would have been a great book character tho!! In the end I'm glad she ended up with Matt, because I think he is way more fun than the eye can see ;)

Same here, it took me almost till the end LOL... it was a touching story,can't deny I didn't have some tears tho

That's when I figured it out too!

I loved how Matt would get "jealous" of her talking to Finn... But I was rooting for Matt the whole time, the wonderful nerdy boy that he was :)

LOVED this book! I choose Matt, because Matt was really both of them...the perfect combination! :)

Yeah ! Matty was both, which made him even more perfect ! I would have loved to skydive with him too lol !

I had the hots for Finn right along with Julie! But I think she was too hard on Matt when she found out...and then waited all summer before she let him know she wanted him. Poor guy was probably kicking himself that whole time.

I agree Karen! She should have forgiven him much sooner...he was such a good guy!!! One of my book boyfriends actually! :)

I had no clue I thought Finn was real I fell in love with Finn's character, the author hid the secret so well I had no clue, because Matty was so nerdy and I just thought the way Matty acted around her and stuff that he wouldn't wright stuff like that too her...
I did start feeling that something was a little wrong around the part of the Christmas tree but apart from that I was completely fooled! :D
BUT I ALSO LOVE MATTY'S CHARACTER! He seemed so different at the end! :)

That is EXACTLY what went on in my head when I read it!!!

I thought it was a bit odd that Matt didn't seem jealous of Finn in the Christmas tree scene, but I didn't put the pieces of the puzzle together until the end.

I actually figured it out a bit sooner, but it didn't change anything for me. I absolutely adored everything about this story. From Julie, to quirky Celeste, to nerdy Matt, who in the end went from nerdy to kind of hot... :)

It was such a unique story. Brilliantly told.

If you ever get the chance, listen to the audiobook version. Fantastic!

Not sure when. I follow the author on Facebook and she just asked fans for what scenes they would like. She showed the outline and she is just barely starting. All the important ones will be done from his POV like under the Christmas Tree, when Julie goes into the freezing lake, their first kiss. Should be awesome!

FLAT-OUT MATT definition: A true companion piece to FOL, FOM is for readers who know the book inside and out. There will be a total of about ten chapters told from Matt's POV, almost all scenes from FOL, but with a few extras.

I can't wait! One of my favorite books! :)

Matty, Matty, Matty, he's my man! I figured out that Matt was Finn pretty early on but the unfolding of the story is what kept me glued. I don't think the character of Finn was all Finn. Matt started out portraying Finn but the best parts of Finn were Matty. Lets not forget, the relationship Finn developed with Julie was based on the feelings Matt had for her. Finn became the conduit so that Matt could use him to cultivate intimacy with Julie. On many occasions Finn was SCREAMING I am Matt. At the end of the book I felt that Jessica tried to blend Finn and Matty together. Now that Julie was all knowing and admitted her feelings, Matt was free to be both his online persona and the Matty we saw. His open display of affection, his playfulness when Julie said she loved him and he said I know....to me, they were more Finn Iike than Matt like. I'm hoping when Jessica writes FOM the change in POV reveals some of that. I loved, loved, loved this story!

What I really want too is a longer Epilogue ... I want to see the "after-jump" !

Beth, I can't wait for FOM.... I hope she writes about Dana and Matt's date and then when Julie thinks she is secretly having a conversation with Dana about it. I cracked up when Matt called her on it. My list and need for Matt's thoughts could go on and on....LOL

I know...He was simply adorable!!! Loved the scene with the Christmas Tree too, that's the point where I had figured out that he was flatsy! :)

Plus, Flat Finn and the hinges was simply brilliant!

I loved them both! I was so sad to find out Finn wasn't real but I knew there was a connection between Julie and Matt through out the book. I'm gonna have to go with Matty though cause the Christmas tree thing was so cute,he is just so sweet and I can't resist the nerdy, awkward type :)

OMG! The morning after the kiss ! So hilarious! Matt and Julie were so akward toward each other and Celeste making breakfast was... priceless!
