Dee I have never started a discussion on a book before but this one left me feeling compelled to do so.

I would love to know what others thought about it and see if some can help me clear up a number of issues I had with it - that left me confused :)

message 2: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee Okay I will do this in small bit, I felt the author crammed so much into the book that a number of things were never addressed.

Violet is attacked, they suspect it is demon - did they ever find out??
Violet's mother is attacked - by whom, again are we left to guess??
Jeremy apparently beat Vi up two years ago, did he suffer retribution??

If the answer to the all three is no what kind of bad ass club is this when they can't protect their own??

message 3: by Dee (last edited Jan 25, 2013 12:20PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee Next issues
Violet encounters Dan, he tells her he made a mistake leaving her - so??
Violet was 21, yet it appeared her parents still shared custoday of her AND she acted like a child - did anyone else find that odd?
No-one is allowed to date Vi, when chief found out about Travis he HAD to beat him, but then it was okay for them to keep dating - to me that made no sense..

Chantal He had to beat Travis cos he had to face the consequences of touching Violet especially since they hid it.. This rule was in place so all the bikers left her alone.. So he had to enforce it for Travis so he didnt go against his word ( In my opinion :) )

message 5: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee I got that too Chantal, but what was the point when he let her be with her after the beating. What message did that put out?

To me it said "If you are man enough to take a beating you can have her"! Which IMO made no sense.

Deborah I agree, Donna. Vi acted more like a 16 year old instead of the twenty something she was. It was very irritating to read. Also, the author spent so much time writing these (potentially) great characters and scenes but didn't flesh them out enough to provide continuity and consistency. The ending didn't bother me as so many books today end with a cliffhanger that I am kind of used to it.(don't like it though) I was so looking forward to reading this as it is exactly what I like but ended up being disappointed. Such a shame. This had the potential to be a great story.

I had the same questions...These questions are answered in book 2 Heart Song (Biker Rockstar, #2) by Bec Botefuhr .

Overall, I couldn't love this book because there was just too damn much crammed into such a short page length. I get that the heroine is a daddy's girl but she was too immature for a 21 yr old for my liking....flitting between her parents' homes, dating in secret, etc. And the whole thing with her friend Lily and her brother just felt thrown in for extra drama where there was already so much drama with the MC and Travis. Having said that, the premise pulls you in and makes you keep reading but the execution was a bit off the mark for me.

Dalo Thank you !!!! I couldn't work out why I didn't love the book, I liked it and want to read book 2 to find out what happens, you've totally hit the nail on the head, there was so much going on - I also want to know more about mum's back story!

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Mum and Chief's story is coming in book 3. I can only imagine the drama roller coaster that will be. Not sure if I was intrigued enough to read that one though.

message 10: by Bev (new) - rated it 1 star

Bev I didn't like it. There was just so much going on it was like a train wreck.

The editing/grammar issues drove me nuts and there was no flow to the writing. The way Violet was written she is 21 going on 11, she drove me nuts, and I ended up skimming just to get to the end.

Thanks for taking the time to add to this thread, this book had such potential, but sadly feel flat :)

message 12: by Beth (new) - rated it 1 star

Beth I really didn't care for this book. I read it all the way through but didn't really like it. I hated that it stopped and now I have to buy the next one. The grammar really got me, I really wanted to yell at the author every time I saw something spelled wrong or when there was something in the paragraph that shouldn't be. I didn't like how the main character called her dad daddy either.

message 13: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee Thanks for posting Monica. I must ask what is inspiring you to read the next book?

Kellan Kyle I did not like this book and liked book 2 even less. Even though I own Chief and Mandy's book, I have no desire to read it. Terrible books!

Is it just me, or is a 17 year old telling a 10 year old they were meant to be together creepy?

Beth Donna wrote: "Thanks for posting Monica. I must ask what is inspiring you to read the next book?"

One thing that always gets me is I must know the way it ends; no matter how bad I have to know.

Totally! I also have the novella about Violet's parents. It might be on my TBR for a long time!

Tiffany Agree 100%, this whole book rubbed me the wrong way. Not a fan !

Cyndi Hackett For some reason I wasn't a fan of this book. I had a hard time believing the most of it and the dialogue didn't seem believable. I stop reading about mid-way.

Well you were very generous giving it three stars then, lol.

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) Hi Donna! Thank you for inviting me to this discussion. I rated this book 4 stars... Some of the questions asked here (that I have read thus far) popped into my mind too, but honestly, I have been spread so thin lately that I was not really "analyzing" the story and drilling down as much as I usually do. I liked the characters and the general story, so the author benefited from my bout of laziness :-)

1.) Violet is attacked, they suspect it is demon - did they ever find out??

This occurred to me as well, but when Violet read that stalker-ish fan mail to Travis, I thought maybe it was the stalker, BUT I just went back to do a little "fact checking" and b/c of the statement one of the guys made, I doubt it was the stalker, but you are right, this was never confirmed (unless I missed it).

Here is what he said: “Boys; it’s time to send Chief a message.”

2.) Violet's mother is attacked - by whom, again are we left to guess??

Here is what my "fact checking" uncovered:
“Was it demon?”

He pulls me back and stares over at Travis who has just got in, he looks over at him and winces.

“Chief.” Travis says.

“Trav.”

“So was it daddy?”

“I think so.”

I THINK that the past situation with Demon's wife and Chief is the reason Demon is after Violet, but it was mostly inferred and not totally laid out.

Here is the proof source (I think she left this open to speculation for the future installments, but I am not certain about that):

“I am going to tell you this because it’s time you knew. Jasmine’s mother Clarice was married to a biker. Chief hated him, and he wanted to get back at him, so he slept with Clarice. It was only once, but it was enough. Clarice kept it from him for eight years and then ten years ago he saw her again. She told him about Jasmine, and he began seeing her. It was fine up until about three years ago when Clarice’s husband found out the daughter he thought was his, was his enemy’s. He started a war with Chief, and it is still going. Clarice’s husband is…”

“Demon.” I whisper.

“It’s why he is after you. He wants revenge; he wants to take from Chief, what Chief took from him. His daughter.”

3.) Jeremy apparently beat Vi up two years ago, did he suffer retribution??

I just assumed that he got a serious ass kicking, but that was never clearly defined. Since it was in the past, I didn't see it as much of a hole, but that's just me.

message 22: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee Thanks for your input Bookie, it is always interesting to look at things from another persons perspective :)

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) then there are these potential plot holes:

1.) Violet encounters Dan, he tells her he made a mistake leaving her - so??

I saw this as an opportunity for Travis to stake his claim on Violet.

2.) Violet was 21, yet it appeared her parents still shared custoday of her AND she acted like a child - did anyone else find that odd?

Yes, I found that very odd as well...

3.) No-one is allowed to date Vi, when chief found out about Travis he HAD to beat him, but then it was okay for them to keep dating - to me that made no sense..

I saw this as some sort of initiation to being with Violet. I mean, who wants to take a beating for a 1 night stand? But if it's the woman you love and want to be with for the rest of your life, any man should be willing to throw down for the love of his life and take it like a man. I saw this as Chief's way of preventing the biker boys from passing her around like a biker bunny ho...

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) to all the other who made the point about there being a lot crammed into this one book, I will have to agree with you guys on that.

potential stalker, long lost sister, Vi's past issues with Jeremy/and twin, rape of the mother, beatings potentially ordered by Demon, Vi dating, lawsuit... Yes, there certainly was a lot of freaking drama :-)

1.) BkGurl wrote: "And the whole thing with her friend Lily and her brother just felt thrown in for extra drama where there was already so much drama "

who the heck is Lily?

2.) Bev wrote: "The editing/grammar issues "

I thought the editing made a marked improvement compared to other work I read by Bec AND I got it free on Amazon, so I wasn't complaining about
it ;-)

3.) Monica wrote: "I didn't like how the main character called her dad daddy either."

I LOVED THAT! I'm from the south and pretty much everyone I know calls their father "Daddy" - even when they are 50 years old :-)

Dee I ♥ Bookie Nookie wrote: "who the heck is Lily? "

I think BKGurl was referring to Violets best friend Lillian. From memory she drown when she went swimming during a storm, hence Vi freaking out whenever she heard lightening!

Dee I ♥ Bookie Nookie wrote: "ok...lol..."

It's understandable you missed that with EVERYTHING else that went on in the story, LOL!

"

The copy I read (I bought it when it was first released) was really bad, editing issues were so bad some of the sentences just did not make sense. I'm guessing it's been re-edited but as I deleted the book from my Kindle it doesn't affect me.

Even with the editing correct the story is still a train wreck IMO
