Choose ONE of the following prompts or create your own original question. Remember to consult the checklist below!:

1.) Who is the most influential character to your protagonist in the text?

2.) Since reading your text, what is something you would like to learn more about?

3.) Why do you think the writer wrote your text? What was its purpose?

For a “4”: Did I….
• Write a topic sentence that provided the title, author, and genre of my text?
• Provide context of what is happening in the text, so my reader understands what I’m talking about?
• Find a direct quote from the text that proves my idea?
• Thoroughly explain the significance of my quote/how it proves my idea?
• Check for correct punctuation and spelling?

Aaron | 29 comments In Eoin Colfer's realistic fiction novel the most influential character to my protagonist Artemis Fowl is captin Holly short. Artemis is a twelve-year-old millionaire, a genius, and, above all, a criminal matermind but even artemis dosen't know what he's taken on when he kidnaps a fairy. I think Holly short the captin of all fairy's is the most influential character to Artemis Because for some reason Artemis captured the captin of all the fairy's and he has no idea what he has gotten himself into because these aren't the fairies of bedtime stories; these fairies are armed and dangerous. I geuss the fairies give Artemis more power or they have something that Artemis wants. Therefore thats why I think Holly is the most influential to Artemis.

Ilijah A | 40 comments In Darren Shan's fiction book Lord Loss, I think his purpose of writing this book was to freak people out. The protagonist "Grubbs" is a teenage boy who lives with his mom, dad, and sister, but this is all about to change. One day his mom and dad and sister went to go somewhere and left him with his aunt and Grubs was curious. He went home to his mother and fathers room only to find them and his sister brutally murdered. "There's a ripping sound, followed by snaps and crunches. My hand turns. The door opens. Hell is revealed"(21). I chose this quote because when you read it, it sends shivers down your spine. This quote shows the part in the book when Grubbs see's his mother, father, and sister dead. This book will make anyone one get nightmares.

Andy Chen | 44 comments In Daniel Keyes science fiction novel, Flowers for Algernon, what I would like to learn more about Charlie Gordon is his life as a kid and a teengaer. Since reading the book, he was already 32 years old, so I would like to know about his childhood. I want to know how his life went being mentally retarded since being born in this real world. I want to know if he went to school or home schooled. I also want to know who raised him when he was first born. I want to know if his father worked to earn money for his family. Also, I want to know why his family abandoned him? Was it because of his retardness? And how did Charlie get to know his scientist, Dr. Steuss? Did he pick him up after being abandoned? These are all the questions I would want to ask and know in the future.

Bryan | 41 comments In Peter Moores realistic fiction, Blind Sighted, I think that the author wrote this book because he wants us to know that life will go like you want it to if you waited long enough. Kirk was a young depressed man who at school spends his time there writing random stuff instead of paying attention in class. He didn't have any friends before, he got kicked out of english class, he wasn't at all cool, he gets pretty emotional, etc. That was until he met a kid named Glen and said that Kirks words were like perfect riffs for songs, and he became Kirks first friend that he had in years. He even found himself a girl that might actually likes him. And so thats why I think that the author wrote this book, to teach us about how lives change.

Aaron | 22 comments In M.T andersons non fiction memoir My maturity, in flames. M.T Anderson is writing about himself when he was 17 years old and his parents were taking a mini vacation, and gave him the responsibility to watch the house and make sure the house stays in tact. I think the writer wrote this text to persuade readers to be relaxed and not be so paranoid with a big amount of responsibility. "I cleaned up the place knowing that I have a tendency to worry." Therefore this quote proves my idea because he said it himself that he has a tendency to worry.

Yamil Cifuentes | 40 comments In Steve Augarde's fiction book, X-isle, What I want to learn more about is the protagonist. The book started of with talking and then the flood came and luckily the protagonist made it to safety on a boat. The protagonist lives in a small town with a loosen dam. The protagonist has some company in his life but he just wants more. But the protagonist may like to call himself the survivor. The protagonist has survive many times in the past. The flood came when the dam collapsed. Many people died and some people survived. I never learned what the protagonist does. I never learned his emotions. And I never learned his past. But what I learned about the protagonist is how he knows what is gonna happened in the future. During when the protagonist and some folks were on the boat during the flood, the protagonist states, "Nobody is gonna die, we are gonna live, just trust me!" This quote shows that how he knows whats gonna happen in the future. I think the reason why the author wrote this book is because he wants to entertain because there is some jokes and some adventures. I wonder what happened after the book.

Wesley | 50 comments In J.K.Rowling's fantasy novel, I would like to know more about Rubeus Hagrid. Hagrid is a half giant who is a wizard. He is the game keeper for Hogwarts after he got expelled. He rescued Harry when his parents are killed. He becomes great friends with Harry. He is very respective of his friends. When he comes to pick up Harry from the Dursley. The father insults Albus Dumbledore and Hagrid says "NEVER-INSULT-ALBUS-DUMBLEDORE-IN-FRONT-OF-ME!"(59) This shows how Hagrid respects his friends. Albus is very good friends with Hagrid because when Hagrid was expelled, Albus let Hagrid stay on Hogwarts as the Game Keeper. I would like to know his childhood and his life in Hogwarts. Did Albus do any other good deeds for Hagrid? Rowling doesn't really explain about Hagrid. Therefore I would like to know more about Hagrid.

Corey | 43 comments In Harvey Rosenfield non-fiction novel, Iron Man,, I want to learn about his past and what he did before he became a star player. Cal Ripken always love baseball and he havent missed a game since May 30, 1982. Cal always knows if he has a good game or a bad game. His team kept winning cause Cal and his teammates have been hitting well. But the book doesnt tell us about his past and what happened before he entered his baseball seasons. Cal wouldnt talk about his past, " When people asked questions about his past, he wouldnt answer it or skipped to the next question," This proves that he could had a bad past or he wouldnt want people to know about his past. The past is very important for him. Therefore, something that I would like to learn more about is his past.

Kenjo | 41 comments In Robert Zubrin's non-fiction book, How To Live On Mars, something I would like to learn more about is what the other people on the planet are like and how to get in touch with them to meet and collaborate with them. The book is about how to survive on the red planet and the basics of survival. It covers many topics such as how to get there, what to do once you are there, and important tips you need to know about Mars and living on the planet. Getting in touch with the people on the planet was a topic that was only vaguely covered and I thought it would be interesting to learn more about. In the book the author stated, "Is it possible and can you find your true love on Mars? The idea is not as silly as it sounds." This quote shows that finding people and possibly your true love is possible. If only you meet the right people and get to the right places. The chapter is about social success but mainly only covers the topic of meeting someone to live with for the rest of your life. Therefore I would like to learn more about getting social on Mars.
