(Melody, you’re probably not going to like this.))

This wasn’t the house Eli grew up in. His house was a simple one story house. It didn’t appear to be that big, but when you walked in you realized what it lacked in height, it made up for in width. That’s not to say it was a mansion or anything, but it was comfortable. The new house he bought for his parents and sister was a mansion on the other hand. Now that he was a two, he could afford to keep his parents in good wealth. When he first sent the money to buy the house, his parents had refused. But, Eli insisted it was something he wanted, and it would be so much better for his little sister Olivia. His parents were ashamed they didn’t want to argue, but after several months in their dream house, they got over it. This was actually the first time Eli saw the house, he had been away so he couldn’t pick it out himself. It was gorgeous and huge, and everything Eli had dreamed of having growing up. Somehow, his parents had transferred the smell of the old house to the new one. Every detail of the house, from the artwork to the furniture, exemplified Eli’s family. Yet, there was still a part of Eli that wished he came home to their small four status house. Probably because he was now wishing more than ever he had never become a guard.

During the entire ride home from the airport, Eli never said a word. He leaned his head against the window of the new car his father bought from selling the house. His parents tried making conversation with him, so did his sister, but he just sat there silently. Olivia was on the verge of tears. Eventually, they gave up and decided to let him be, figuring he was probably just tried. This is what they told Olivia, but Eli’s mother could see there was something wrong in the look of Eli’s eyes.
When they got to the house, Eli didn’t stop to even look at it, he just went straight for the front door. Right after opening it, a huge crowd of family and friends shouted, “Surprise!” They had made signs and food and all looked thrilled to see him. Claire was in the center of the group, holding a cake Eli guessed she made herself by the frosting that said, “Hooray, you kept all your limbs!”
Eli tried his best, he really did. He tried to act happy and join in on the party, but his heart wasn’t in it. When the sun was beginning to set, Claire, who hadn’t much time to talk with him from all the people fighting for Eli’s attention, simply walked up to him and held out her hand. Eli took it without hesitation, for the first time feeling a little bit of home. They went outside and sat on his family’s new pier. Eli was pleased to see their old boat in the dock. For a while they just sat at the end of the dock, kicking their legs back and forth. Claire could actually swing both legs now with her state of the art meca.

In a gentle voice, a quality of Claire’s that rarely showed, she asked, “What happened Eli?”

All Eli could do was shake his head and then he began to cry. It was slow tears that didn’t involve any wailing, just sporadic shakes from his chest. Claire rubbed his back and eventually pulled his head onto her lap. She stroked his hair and occasionally made soothing sounds; never asking questions just being for him till he was ready.

((Jamie totally ditched Eli. She went from visitng him in the middle of the night to barely saying hello to him.))

**he can't. he's on a mandetory vacation issued by Prince Aaron. Hayden was also supposed to be, but he made other arrangements, and confermed with Mr.Glee, While Eli didn't. thus, he can't go back until his 'vacation' is over. and Hayden may be in the castle, but he is not to WORK**

((it worked out nicely because I was planning on sending him home anyway. Hayden can't go back for a reason I have yet to reveal.)

**wow, i guess i can see the future. actually i just figured that they would want to go home after the ordeal at the beach**

the mail carrier brought over a letter. he knocked on the door, ready to give the letter.

Eli's little sister opened the door. Her parents had gone to the resturant and Eli was still sleeping. "Hello?"

"hi" said the mail man. "could you please give thins letter to Eli" he asked. "it has the royal seal so it must be important" he added, as he handed her the letter.

"Okay thank you." Olivia took the letter and closed the door. She didn't really like answering the door. The letter had very neat hand writing on it, but she noticed there was no return address. Weird
Olivia walked to her brother's room, which was the entire fifth floor (fourth if you don't count the basement)). Since Eli bought the house, it was only right that he had the biggest room, but she could tell it made him uncomfortable. She knocked a couple times, but got no answer, so she just walked right in. The house had odd angles, so she had to walk around the corner, to where she found Eli and Claire in a Queen sized bed sleeping. It wasn’t odd to find the two sleeping together, they had been doing it since they were in the crib. Lately Eli had been very clingy to everyone. He didn’t speak much, but you could see it in his eyes how much he missed everyone. Olivia hated the government for hurting her brother. She cleared her throat to try and wake them up, but it was like waking the dead. They were way too much alike. Though Claire did cause more trouble. Olivia smiled at the comforter on the bed, it had been the only conversation that Eli had had where he sounded like his old self.
The comforter had a picture from a popular pirate cartoon that Eli watched as a kid. Their dad had gotten it as a joke for Eli, but much to their mother's embarrassment Eli liked it and didn’t want to change it. Even though their mom had bought a more grown up comforter. He might have been a two now, but he sure didn’t act like it. Claire left the letter on the nightstand, figuring he read it when he got up.

The mail man left after that. he noticed several fliers around. maybe he sould get a second job.

Eli woke up with Claire’s hair in his mouth, which he quickly spit out. The motion didn’t wake up Claire though; she looked so peaceful asleep. Her reddish-brown hair was sprawled in ringlets across one of his pillows and she was curled slightly into a ball. She had to be the most beautiful person he had ever met, even though she was wearing his baggy sweat pants and shirt. He got the urge to kiss her nose where there were faint freckles, but stopped himself. Eli didn’t want to mess up their friendship. And right now, he felt so conflicted about two other girls: Jamie and Madeline. Claire was the simple one, the one who always made sense.
He got the sense that Jamie wanted nothing to do with him now. Todd had poisoned her with lies about him probably. Eli found himself missing her smiles. Then there was Madeline, who recently and currently was making him feel miserable. He thought about the fierceness in her eyes, and couldn’t help but admire her. Before the mess with King Richard, he thought they had gotten along, but it was clear she didn’t like him at all. Why wouldn’t she get in the car? Why’d she run away from him? If she really cared about him, or liked him in the slightest bit, she would have been comfortable being around him. Instead all she did was run in the opposite direction. Eli had always thought he was good at talking to people and getting them to like him, but now he felt like a total failure. Did anyone really like him, or was he just tolerated?

Madeline was looking at his house. Madeline Madeline Madeline. not Audrey. Madeline. she took a deep breath and knocked on the door. she felt like fainting, but she need to do this. she could do this, and she would. she would not act like a 4 year old a chicken out. she would be brave. she was brave. she could do this. she knocked a bit harder on the door.

Olivia answered the door. Why was it the door only ringed when she was the only one to answer it,"Hello?"

"hi sweetie" said Madeline "you must be Olivia" she added, remembering that Eli talked about her. "Is your brother here?" she asked. she was kinda nervous, but she new she could do this.

“Who are you calling sweetie? I’m 14.” Olivia narrowed her eyes at the girl. She had never seen this person before, and she was pretty sure she knew everyone Eli was friends with.
“Who are you being rude to Livy?” Eli called from the stairs; he had heard the knocking.
Claire giggled, “That a girl. Tell ‘em we don’t want any.”
“Have you been corrupting my sister while I’ve been away?”
“She was in desperate need of corruption. All your do-gooding has been a terrible influence on her; she’s almost an up-standing citizen.”
Eli was a second away from responding when he saw who was at the door. Her hair was different, but there was no denying it was Madeline. “Oh,” was all he could manage to say.

MAdelines cheeks turned a bright red. she was not so sure she could do this any more. "uhm, i came to appologize" she said, trying to cover up her embarrassment.

"Who's she?" asked Olivia and Claire in unison. Eli just his head.
"I guess we need a moment." He went outside where Madeline was, closing the door so Claire and Olivia couldn't see. Claire was worried. Eli seemed a little like his old self this morning, but now he looked like the wind got knocked out of him.

"i wanted to appologize for my horid behavior at the beach" she said, trying to meet his eyes. "I am also sorry that i turned my back on you" she added. keep the tears in keep the tears in she kept saying to herself. "It was rather crude of me considering all you have done for me" she said. her voice cracked at the end. "I would understand if you do not wish to forgive me, but i wanted you to know that...' she took a breath "the reason i left you there was because when ever i care for someone, they tend to get hurt on my behalf, just like it did already, and i did not want it to happen again" she said this a bit faster. she wiped away a stray tear, afraid of what he ws going to say.

Eli slumped on the porch and rested his feet on the second step. He ran his hand through his hair, clearly frustrated. "I'm going to forgive you Madeline. I probably already have. But, right now, I'm really hurt. I've never felt so shut-out and helpless before. I failed you as a friend. I'm not ready to forgive myself for that yet...I'm really struggling. Way more than I was before the selection. I was never cut out to be a guard, the life just kind of chose me. This whole situation just reaffirmed that."

"you never failed me as a friend" she said. she sat down beside him. 'you tought me to stand up for who i am and for what i believe in, and considering i have known you for about 2 weeks, it is quite an achievement" she said, trying to cheer him up a bit. "you may not be cut out for a guard, but you are one hell of a person. Amazing in your own way' she added. Her british accent was hinting at the way she spoke.

"What are you going to do Madeline? I take it from the hair dye you're someone else. Who is it this time?"

"me" she said. "this is my natural hair colour, eye colour....me" she said. "i also opened up a hospital" she said.

"...Are you going to talk to your brothers? What about your real dad? Or are you just going to hide in Illea?"

"Im going to stay here for a while" she said. "i don't think i can face them all yet" she said. what she did not admit to was that she was scared to meet her family. After never seeing her father, losing her mother and oldest brother, how could she not be afraid. "i am no coward, but i do not belive i am ready to waltz up to the palace and say 'hey dad guess what, im your long lost daugher!'." she added.

**be back in about 2 hours. maybe a bit less**

"Maybe he already knows. How old is your brother? There was peace between England and France for a couple years, then about 16 years ago they started fighting. When did you and your brother get adopted by the Queen?" Eli paused, not sure if he should tell her what he wanted to say. He'd hate to give her hope only for it not to work out. "You know Todd...I mean Hayden...he uh, thinks your brother might still be alive. He says his body never came back to England. When we came to save you, he was saying something about how the King of France has him. We talked momentarily about it in the hospital, he said your brother tried to kill the King, but the King recognized him. I guess he looks like your mom or something. Anyway, King Richard told you he was dead because he was trying to mess with you...But, I don't really know. It was just something Hayden told me I thought you ought to know." Eli felt bad telling her this, especially since it might not be true. But, he thought about Livy and how if he were in Madeline’s shoes he’d want any chance that she could still be alive.

"that's what kept me going all those years" she said. 'the hope" she added. "I will go back home at some time, but i am just not ready to face everyone there." she said.

Eli nodded, "I need some alone time myself, or just time with my family. I need to remember what it's like to be normal. I'll try to catch up with you if you're in the area before I go back to the palace. Right now, I can't be around you. You remind me of the palace too much. I'm really sorry."

"alright" she said. the statement hurt, but she stood her ground. after a moment of hesitation, she got up, curtsied out of habit, said good bye, and left.

Madeline knocked on the door. it had been 5 minutes already. she kept knocking but no one was opening. eventually she got frustrated, and kicked the door down.she guessed that all that power came from running around so much. "Eli!!" she called, as she dragged Dr.Jane in. "Where ever you are pack everyone's bags and quickly" she yelled

Eli came charging up the basement stairs,"No. You come with me." He motioned for her to follow him downstairs. "Hurry, the palace is under attack."

"and Aria is after both of us" she added. "She knows where everyone lives, and she never misses" she said. "she will be hear within like 4 four minutes" she said

"I know. When the sirens starting going off I got a call from Barry. Hurry we have an escape route. We need to go help before everyone is dead."

MAdeline grabbed Dr.Janes hand. Dr.Jane was terrified. "alright" she said, following Eli.

Eli took them down into a subbasement. Which was actually part cave. The walls were slightly wet, and it smelled of the sea. Eli blocked off the entrance, so Aria couldn't get in even if she figured out where the hidden door was. She would be forced to go back to the palace. "During the fifth world war, my provenance used this as a retreat. It's where we took care of the injured, and got supplies. There's a river up ahead that leads to the ocean, that's where my family is. We are going to take a ship and go pick up the people at the palace." It took about ten minutes of walking, but they could finally make out the ship. Eli's father came out and helped the Doctor on board. It was an expensive ship, top class. Eli had been wondering why they kept their old boat in the pier; it was because they moved the expensive one down here. “Maddie, would you mind sharing a room with Claire? We have enough rooms for everyone, but once the selected get here it has to be two to a room. Unless, there is a selected you want to share with?” They were on board now, and already sailing. The ship moved quickly, so it would be about 45 minutes to get to the palace. Normally the trip took hours.

"no i don't mind" she said. "thank you, once again" she added.

"You'd do the same for me. I'm pretty sure that's why your here." Eli ran his fingers threw his hair, he was stressed and worried and miserable all at once. He kept thinking about all his friends at the palace and how much he wanted them to be okay.

Aria was walking through Eli's house, knowing that they were already gone. she had no intention of killing, or hurting her friends. or former friends. she looked at family pictures. she thought about her younger sisters. she knew that one of them had gone to the castle. 18 year old Amy to be exact. she had not known that she was alive, after being seperated from her when she was little. she prayed that Hayden did not kill them. when she thought about Hayden, she suddenly go a sudden thought. she ran out of the house at full speed and got to the palace in less than 15 minutes. she had to stop and get on a horse half way.

Madeline had heard foot steps, but knew Aria would probably not find them. she was right, because after a minute the steps were gone. "I'm sure everyone will be okay" she told him. "i can't say the same for the rebels though" she added.

((Um she can't get there in less than five minutes...It's impossible they don't live that close to the palace. Otherwise Eli wouldn't be home sick all the time.))

Eli sighed. "Todd will slaughter all of them. I've been there before during a rebel attack from the south. No one made it out."

Just the thought of that made Madeline sick. she turned rather pale, and leaned against the wall for suport. "not a pleasent visual" she said.

((That's still not much better. Let's just pretend she used a magical teleporter.))

"He does have a thing for the dramatics. I'm sure he's already shouted about he's a demon from hell, but honestly, he kind of is the way he fights. No mercy. He's the perfect little solider."

"and appearantly no humanty" she said lightly.
